University Courses, Show Skip The Light

Postby SkipToMy_Lou on Mon Aug 28, 2006 9:17 am

So this week is the time where I need to hand in my course selections for next year.

I was originally going to do journalism, but with enter scores of 88-94...I'd say me being so slack with school work rules me out of that.

So I've set my sites on a Marketing/Music Industry or Music Industry/Event Management course.

Has anyone had any experience with these, that they'd like to share with me?

Uni of Ballarat has an ok music tafe course. And a friend of mine is doing music marketing/management in Sydney and she really loves it. I dont know any specifics about that though.

Look into stuff at the VCA. They're the best in Victoria for a reason.

What uni were you looking to journalism at?

You could always do a straight up degree, say Arts, do journalism electives, keep your marks at 70% and get an internal transfer into the course you want. That's how I got into Law.

Not really too much interested in doing journalism, well I wouldn't mind...but doing something with music would be great for me.

i can tell ya right now that marketing has a lot of assignments....long ass ones too.

i do accounting & finance. acc is boring as hell, finance is actually interesting and relevant. At the end of the day though i'll interview the employers, not the other way around.

The Victorian College of the Arts. In southbank. It's a "division" of Melbourne Uni. They've got schools of music, drama, film and tv, dance :P , as well as the visual arts stuff. I'm not too sure what they have in the way of music management, but it's not a bad place to build a search from. And they've got a fantastic reputation all over Australia.

Have a look around there. (By the way, if you like pretentious tossers, look no further.)

Looks good, I've actually been there a few times with my year 12 history class for lectures on French & Russian Revolutions (very very boring).

But I doubt it has what I'm looking for there, thanks for the info tho.

my mate does Event Management....I think he'll use it as much as his Leisure Management degree  ....I think if you want to do Event Management, just volunteer for stuff & get into industry rather than doing degree....
