Avatars

I've disabled remote avatar linking in an effort to cut down on oversized avatars that cause problems with the page layout, and increase loading times. To compensate, I've relaxed the restrictions on uploaded avatars a little.

 I request bigger pixel limits please.
I have a 207x125 pixel pic that i want to upload and use...it is only 18 kb.
I can make it a little smaller but when i make it smaller than the limit it is too blurry to see...
Could you ease on the limit a bit?

Yeah.
That'd probably be too big...
Could you go for 180-200 wide x 200-300 high or something?

180 x 200 is outrageously big in my opinion :!:

I'm still on 800x600 at home an avatar like this may take a 1/3 of my screen ! and even on a 1024 screen this is far too big.

i think the limit should be about 100 x 100, maybe 120x120 shall be the highest max.

my avatar is 60 x 80 and even in this resolution we can make nice and funny things. i think it's better when the avatar are small, it's less childish, more discrete. i wouldn't like to see 200 x 200 kobe avatars put by 12 years pre-teenagers all around on this forum. and we aren't here to show our avatars, avatars only enable us to recognize each other more quicky, while it also shows hobbies or attitude of the person.

I really would prefer to make it no larger than it is right now. 100x100 was a little restricting, it really can't be any more than 100 wide without causing problems with the layout (and loading times).

The avatar must be less than 90 pixels wide and 90 pixels high

i got this message while trying to add an avatar 100x100 size. when other people have bigger ones like 99x99 and 100x75. i don't mind having a 90x90 but i am just curious why they have bigger ones

They porbably put them as their avatars before the restictions came into effect.

Colin is right. I've reduced the maximum size a couple of times since the issue was first raised, but existing avatars that exceeded the limit were not removed. I decided to allow the larger avatars, but when those users decide to change them, their new avatars will be subject to the 90x90 limit.
