Do you give out change to the homeless?

Postby Mazzocchi on Mon Mar 06, 2006 2:59 pm

I do if I get asked.
They need it more than I do.

One of these days I'm going to get cargo pants and fill up all of the pickets with change, then strap a car alarm to my chest. Then when the first homeless guy asks me for change I will say "Do I have anny change?!" then set off the car alarm and say "You've hit the jackpot!" and give him all the change in my pockets.

So, do you give out change to homeless people that ask for it?

Sometimes. Depends on how I'm feeling and how much money I've got. We have alot of "repeat offenders" here who wander around every day asking for money, I avoid them. I try not to give cash to charities either unless I've got alot of spare change or something.

I give it when I have. Sometimes I just go buy what they want since I dont want them to spend it on booze or crack or something. If they tell me they want a beer I will give them but if they say they want food and buy beer it makes me kinda pissed.

There's this one hobo in Geelong named Dida, he has some disease or some shit and he lives on the streets everywhere. He only accepts big coins, not 5 or 10 cent coins. 20 cents plus is what he only accepts

It doesn't really happen much here in Newcastle, but there are people who will ask for a dollar and then resort to violence and help themselves to whatever else is in your wallet. As a general rule, when scruffy people approach you in town on a night out or in a supermarket car park, you decline.

I remember back in high school (when I was about15 or 16) this kid who could be no more than 10 yrs old held me up with a gun. Couldnt really do anything about it cuz the older guys in that neighbourhood sent him out and were sitting watching the whole thing. Woulda been dumb if I tried anything funny so I hung my head and just gave him all my money.

I felt like such a pussy...at least I'm a pussy thats still breathing.

I had never met a beggar in my life until last X-mas when I went to Atlanta. Came across several in Centennial Park, and they were pretty annoying. They wanted money because it was freezing cold and they had no where to go. Wtf would my pocket change do to help them get a room somewhere? There are shelters. They could/should go. Why the hell dont they get off their ass and go to the unemployment office?

There are illegal mexicans in this country finding jobs, I'm certain there are jobs available for those who really want one enough to stop doing drugs & clean up their life.

I normally ignore whoever asks me for change. People only give to the homeless to feel good about themselves anyway.

You should just buy them a happy meal.. Then see the look on their face when they can't buy booze.

I remember one time I was going to the bank. I was in my car looking for a parking space in the parking lot , and then this guy starts waving his hands in a "pull down your window" motion. I roll down my window and he asks for money. He has a speech impediment though , and says he wants some money to buy something to eat. I give him some money and drive off to find a parking space.

I gave it the first time someone asked. Oh, and I did it again. Guy was playing on a guitar and had one of the best voices I ever heard it live. But generally - no. The ones I see are all drunks/junkies and lie like bitches. I was once in a shop with fitness supplements and guy came into the store and started asking if they had any tablets of some sort (something to do with concentration, its used to prevent epilepsy) which can be also used as a drug. Salesman threw him out. I see that guy constantly, begging on the street, saying that he's a student who needs money for a bus. I hear that all the time. I saw even someone close to fifty (or at least he looked like that old) using it.

I don't give any money to those losers, they are nothing more than a waste of space. They'll end up spending the money on booze or drugs.

Funny story, at this Twins game last year we were driving home and his drunk hobo was in the road walking very slow. Nobody could go because this loser was staggering around in the road taking forever to get across. So we yell out at him to "politely" get the fuck off the road. He just starts SCREAMING at us and charging at our car. That guy was so wasted.

So yeah, basically I don't give anything to homeless people.

I don't usually do it after what my teacher told me last year.

My teacher said there was this one guy and he was a lawyer, during his spare time he would dress up like a homless person and go out to ask for money pretending he doesn't have anything.
