If you had a million dollars...

I'm sure people think about this from time to time.. what would you do if you were handed a million dollars today? Be reasonable and realistic.

I'd give $25,000 to a homeless shelter and make sure all the homeless people there get some new clothes, food and neccessities.

With 500,000 I'd buy a nice house and a BMW M3.. (Which I plan on getting soon) and with the remaining money I'd invest into buying real estate and help my family.

I'd give around 50% to my family so all that pressure would finally be off my shoulders. I would think 500,000 would be enough for that anyhow.
With the rest...hm..probably invest it in stocks and real estate, maybe buy a house.
Bored.

Probably $100 000 to charity, $300 000 to my family, $100 000 to invest, $300 000 for a house & car, and $200 000 for savings & spending money. Increments in monetary size per category is subject to change.

I think it'd be awesome to buy commercial space (the Super Bowl just popped into my mind), and then make a stupid commercial that is totally based on me. Basically being an asshole, making fun of people, and stating that I am the greatest thing that has every touched earth. Am I the only one who thinks that might be fun?

use $225k to pay off my house....use $200k-$300k for deposits on a few investment properties (a mix of commercial and residential) and use the equity in my newly paid-off house to finance them....probably $40-50k on a car....about $200k-$300k to rest of family and siblings (this might be lump sum payments or help them to purchase a small business or something)....probably spend about $30k-$40k or so on a round-the-world trip....probably $10k on electronic stuff (tv's, computers, etc), $10k-$15k on furniture etc....rest would be invested somewhere....and I would continue to work....

The X, thats probably the smartest thing to do man. Purchasing a home is one of the best investments you can have.

I'm just glad some of that education and a few years in the finance industry is starting to rub off a little :P

oh yeah, I'd also use some of the mill to pay off my student loans....$10k for Aussie one and $17k for NZ one

I'd spend it all on Pepsi and Snickers. Then I'd take all of the remaining money out of my bank account and write a cheque for $900,000 to the homeless. The cheque would bounce of course, adding to the constant misery that is their lives.

I will donate some to charity. I will buy myself a new house and car. Payoff all credit cards debt. Investment and put some in the term deposit. Holiday. The rest, put it in my bank account for bonus interest.

I'd go to Wells Fargo (a bank) and ask them if I could cash the check for a million dollars worth of pennies. I'd do it over and over again. Asking them for pennies, and then dimes, and then quarters, and then nickels and then back to pennies.

spend it all on hookers and beer

nah, id get my folks a new house....$300,000....a new Audi $80,000 (one for myself too)

i'd travel a bit $50,000 + another $50,000 for my parents. That leaves 520,000 for investing.

Ah, a sensible suggestion at last. ;) There's a whole lot of Simpsons references this topic invites, but tonight I'm going to refrain from that developing habit.

I'd probably splurge a bit (a new car, maybe a new PC, DVD recorder, DVDs) but look to put away and/or invest at least half of it.

It would be pretty hard to spread one million dollars like that...mathematically impossible, in fact. ;)

get it changed into singles and head down to the red light district in a fedora and full length fur coat..

or..

I've got a few friends with some diverse talents.. a script writer, a cinematographer, some sound engineers, some musicians, and some actors (including my sis).. I'd probably exclusively dedicate it to enabling them to make a series of films (starting out shoe string but then moving to mildly substantial) so they could all cut their teeth in their respective industries

What would you do with the remaining 90,000? For me? Really? Thanks dude (y)

I'd probably spend my first 50' on shoes and clothes and such, the next 50' on all kinds of useless electronics, the next 150' on a damn nice apartment here in Växjö, the next 50' for me to fuck around on the stock market, the next 100' for family, then set aside 100' for whatever and then invest the rest in reel estate and let it build up by itself... Then I'm set for a while.
