Tom and Katie's Paris Engagement!

TomKat is official, as TOM CRUISE and KATIE HOLMES have announced their engagement! At a 'War of the Worlds' press conference in Paris Friday, Tom confirmed the news: "Yes, I proposed to Kate last night ... because it's very beautiful and romantic here," he smiled.

"Entertainment Tonight" has learned that Tom popped the big question Thursday night after a romantic candlelit dinner at Le Jules Verne, a famous restaurant on the second level of the Eiffel Tower. Tom says the couple may even exchange vows in France -- on a train from Paris to Marseilles Friday, the actor told members of the media he would love to marry Katie at the Eiffel Tower with both of their families present to witness the event.

"Today is a magnificent day for me, I'm engaged to a magnificent woman," he told reporters at the press conference, as his bride-to-be smiled and displayed some serious diamond bling on her left hand.

When asked about the ring, Tom admitted, "I've had it for some time."

There is no wedding date planned just yet.

Sparks flew immediately for this Hollywood couple, who have been dating for just over 2 months. It all started when Tom called the 26-year-old "Dawson's Creek" star out of the blue for a private meeting. The two hit it off instantly and set out on a variety of romantic outings -- including sushi dinners aboard his private jet, vacations in Mexico, OPRAH's white tie ball and smooches for the paparazzi in Rome last April.

Tom then publicly declared his love for Katie on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" in May, literally jumping for joy at his newfound girlfriend. "I can't be cool, I can't be laid back," he told Oprah. "I want to celebrate her, she's a very special woman."

Katie, of course, echoed the sentiment: "It's exciting," she told our JANN CARL. "I love Tom. It's amazing. I'm so proud to be with him."

Both stars have big summer films coming out, which had led to some speculation that this was all just a big publicity stunt. Tom's response? "Ridiculous." Tom's 'War of the Worlds,' directed by STEVEN SPIELBERG, opens June 29, while Katie's 'Batman Begins' is in theaters right now!

Tom Cruise is a complete fag... what a hypo little wanker, I'd smack him over the head with a sledge hammer if I ever got the chance. Did you know, if someone wants to interview him he makes them do a 4 hour course on scientology? It's like a fucking cult or something, everyone he's ever been with (btw, he's never dated anyone while famous by just meeting them normally... he sees them on tv, then calls around trying to get in touch with them.. thats another matter).. has converted, or almost converted to this bullshit religion.

That thing he pulled on Oprah was just wrong too. He needs to be put down.

He was on 60minutes the aussie one, and the interviewer simply asked about katie holmes/nicole kidman and he went all nuts on him..

Lately, I've been hearing a lot of negative stuff about him. I heard some ridiculous comments that he made on the Daily Show last week, and that whole Scientology stuff that he's into pushed him to be critical of Brooke Shields on anti-depressants. That Scientology stuff that he's a strong supporter of, is really messed up if you read up about it.

1: He tries to impose his religion on other people, using his celebrity and relationships to do so. Do you honestly think Katie Holmes was going to convert to scientology if she didn't meet him?

2: He uses his relationship with Holmes as a vessell to advertise his new movie. I didn't even know he was in War of the Worlds, or that she was in Batman until I saw them on tv professing their "love" inbetween talking about the movie.

3: He's said he has "never felt like this before" about someone, despite being married for 10 years or whatever it was to Nicole Kidman. How can you be married to someone for that long, and suddenly decide you've "never felt like this" about your new girlfriend who was in pre school when you were making your first movies.

I disagree with the whole Scientology part of your argument. I don't think he tries to impose his religion on others. If Katie Holmes is converting to Scientology it just shows her stupidity and how easy she can be influenced. Remember Holmes has "never been in love" before. She's a naive chick..so her converting might just be on her part not his.

In general I just don't like it when people bash others that are more fortunate in life in terms of wealth or public status when they don't know them.. we all do it.. like I hate Mike Grier, but I met him in real life and threw a pretzel at him. So that's my experience lol...

The 60 Minutes Jowe mentioned above, the interviewer had to go through a 4 hour course on Scientology at the Church of Scientology in LA before he could interview Tom.

1)He has the exact opposite point of view that I have about psychiatry, saying it is a drug-based mind-controlling pseudoscientific procedure. I think it is ignorant to say that.

2)The only decent movie he has ever made is Rain Man, and even there he was overrated.

3)Do you really think he is really in love with Katie Holmes??? He fucked up with Kidman and Cruz, what makes you think this marriage will work?
