lol...
Melbourne's weather is pretty average, it's not very stable. There are several universities within the city which you might be able to get into but I don't think any of the universities in the heart of the city have accomodation. There are other international/exchange students around, most seem to be able to settle in, find work, a place to live and all that. Last year at my old university I met a guy from south America (can't remember which country), he shared a house with a few other international students to split the rent and had a job on the side to pay the rent, bills etc. My old uni was about 20-30 minutes from the city with a big campus and accomodation for students, very affordable too, but all you get is a small room...
No major complaints about Melbourne really, it's affordable depending on where you live. You can't expect to go to school, work, live in the best place and be 100% happy. You'll enjoy it if you're realistic; parts of every move are difficult
I think there's less crime in Melbourne than Sydney, but that's just what I've been lead to believe, not necessarily a fact. If you can get as close to the city as possible (depending on money and all that) you'll get the most enjoyment out of it + you will less likely need a car. The outer suburbs are boring. The city has everything you need: school, work, clubs, sexy women, sports and aquatic centre (pick up b-ball) and all the sporting events (basketball, australian open tennis, formula 1, rugby, afl). Hope that helps somewhat, and hopefully someone else can provide another perspective!
You might want to go to Queensland for the weather and the bitches, but it's probably going to cost more, and the place has less substance (tourist destination)
