What do you think are the greatest inventions?

why isn't it? electricity didnt just come out of nowhere and then we applied them.

anyway, i think paper is a great invention (by the Chinese, oh yeah!) because it is very important for communication and education, without it, i dont think we'd be here today.

Electricity is a natural force...all we did was harness it. Did anyone invent lightning?

Humans have made inventions to harness electricity; electricity is completely natural: fire, solar energy, and so on. Electricity for humans is made by either burning something or by using the sun, and then taking the energy created by those actions and using it. Humans could be used to power stuff, ala The Matrix, as the human body contains an enormous amount of energy. No one invented electricity...it was discovered. :)

Actually, much of the electrical energy used today is generated from mechanical energy which is derived from natural forces. Anyways, I'd say that the use of electrical energy is very important but it's very difficult to just pick one "great invention." I'd say the Cathode Ray Tube also deserves a mention because without it, there would be no television or computer monitors.
