Nets' D-Will wants release to join Mavs

Fri Jul 10, 2015 5:40 pm

Former All-Star point guard Deron Williams is in talks with the Brooklyn Nets about securing his potential release this offseason to clear the way for Williams to sign with his hometown Dallas Mavericks, according to league sources.

Please make it happen. Save our off-season.

Not yet. DJ might change his mind again and ask for a trade in the middle of the season

Wow the Mavs fans have really fell hard if they think Deron Williams is the saviour of anything unless the Mavs goal is to get the top 3 pick next year?

In which case I can recommend loads of tank commanders that were on the Knicks roster last season.

Take your pick, players 1 through 15.

All earned the tank commander badge last year

On a positive note, they'll surely be paying him far, far less than what he turned down to stay in Brooklyn a couple of years back.

Well we will see just how much he wants to be in Dallas by how much money he is willing to leave on the table in his buyout

Deron Williams is a done player. Unfortunately the Mavericks are done too. Sooner Cuban accepts this fact and sooner he can start rebuilding.

Only guy I feel sorry for is Dirk. He took sacrifice for the team only to end up on a sinking ship.

It's done.
The three-time All-Star point guard has reached a buyout agreement with the Nets after seeing his production decline each of the past three seasons, NBA.com reports. Williams is expected to receive between $25 million and $30 million of the $43.3 million he was under contract for over the next two seasons, according to ESPN.

Williams will sign with his hometown Mavericks. ESPN reports Williams and the Mavericks are expected to sign a two-year deal worth about $10 million

2yrs. Not bad. Mavs will have some cap then to make another run at the big fish

Agreed. They're not getting the player they were chasing a couple of years back, but for that kind of salary with lower expectations, it's alright for now. As you said, it's not going to tie up a heap of cap space for years to come, either.

I meant, not save us to be a contender again but to stay competetive again after losing out on Ty and DJ. Like, to send a message to the FAs next year that we're still in it despite this and that.

I really think DWill is still an above-average PG in this league and he still can light it up on a good night. I actually think he's an upgrade to Rondo and Wes is to Monta in some ways barring his health. But yeah, it'll all come down to the health of Wes, CP and DWill before they consider to tank at least for this year. But this roster and coaching staff isn't for tanking purposes. Signed, a Mavs fan lol

Also, isn't a bad time to tank with the cap about to raise significantly for the next 2-3 yrs? A lot of money to throw around for talents.

Did he sign yet? Fuck, this worries me lol.

Yes, he is.

BTW, what is a Tank Commander Badge?

How does that work? Tanking=Losing? So, one who is great at losing? Purposely?

A good tank commander never loses on purpose it just comes naturally

When it comes to a player like D-Will, while his production has dropped off, his skill hasn't magically vanished entirely. There's always the possibility that he can still utilise his skills more effectively in a different role, a different system, one that doesn't demand he do things that he's no longer doing well. On a modest (compared to what he was being paid) $5 million a year for a couple of seasons, it's a possibility worth trying for.

That is basically a bad player. Am I right? I have a feeling I'm not.

Re: Nets' D-Will wants release to join Mavs

You are correct Maverick.

A bad player, a player that tries really really hard but sucks no matter what will always get the tank commander Job.

Wherever team he goes? Because sometimes it's just about fitting in and there's a lot of things to factor in when a player plays terrible whether it's on-court or off. Also it's a team sport, it can't only be blamed to just one player. If they loss, it means they didn't play well enough as a team.

And how would we know if this particular player is a Tank Commander? Advanced stats/analytics? Sorry, I'm just confused. All I know is the reason of a player being in the NBA is he's a good/serviceable player. If he isn't, he's out.
