I swear, if the Spurs doesn't go to the finals, this is going to be a failure.

So West is nothing more than a ring chaser? Where Sauru at now?

Wow. Spurs are stacked. Looking for that homecourt advantage this season.

It would be be hilarious to see that Spurs paid players under the table 5-10 years from now.
Great pickup. West still has some fire in him.

It's always been like that. It's a tradition not some new trendy thing like McDonalds McLobster.
I'd rather see unfortunate players that's not won much rather with a good franchise.

of course its not new, didnt say it was, just say its is now the rule not the exception. players didnt jump ship and work contracts solely for a ring. the game has changed enough where its easier to ring chase simply from the amount of money they make and how much they can make outside of basketball. lebron could make min each year if he wanted to and still be one of the highest paid basketball players alive

Chris Webber was talking about it on the "pick your own topic" episode of Open Court. He basically said I wanted to beat the best player, I didn't wanna play with him. It's just about the culture "back then".
I can't find an online link to the segment but I'll look it up and try not to paraphrase it as much.
I know there have been "super teams" before but like Old Man Sauron said; its way too common now days. Sometimes it works (Celtics, Heat) and sometimes it doesn't (Lakers).
I'm not a fan of it but that's just the way things are. If you're a Spurs fan you've got to be excited about the moves they've made and how consistently good/relevant they stay.

I would hardly call the Spurs a super team. Aldridge was a good pickup and for the money West signed, that as a fine signing. It's a collection of some good players but not at the level of the aforementioned teams

Chris Webber also joined the 76ers for AI experience. And I am sure this was when everyone like Barkley, Webber, all media boys were upset and sung in same tune for LBJ bolting to the Heat. This was such a big issue back then that new CBA entirely was being focused to limit player's movement by choice. How did that work out for them?
West is different. He's 35, guh damn it. Way passed his prime.

the spurs are in no way a super team, its just that they have such a good rep that people forget how old they are. the had a great offseason but are not imo the clear favorite at this point

Exactly. Two bad-timing injuries (which is highly probable because of their age rate) and their cylinders won't work like they used to.
