NLSC Greatest of All-Time: #12

Postby Mandich on Tue Jun 23, 2015 8:12 pm

-14th number of the many

-#11 was won by Yao Ming

-#12 will probably go one sided for an All-time great

-You can vote for players in any way you want: On-court impact, Off-court impact, championships etc.

Nominees:

1. John Stockton (1984-85 to 2002-03)

P/36R/36A/36TS%OrtgDrtgPERWs/48
14.93.111.9.60812110421.8.209

* Stockton basically has a span of two primes, which is amazing. Just shows how consistent of a player he was.

Obviously, he is one of the best point guards ever. No question. Offensively he was the perfect player, efficient, elite playmaker, and made the team better.

Sadly he never won a title, but that doesn't diminish his greatness one bit. Just look at his career numbers, 18 years doing that. Incredible.

The guy is the All-time leader in steals and assists, and you could easily argue that he was the best ever at doing both things. His Ortgs are incredible, as he has 13 years with a Ortg of 120 or higher.
13 years! He has 11 years of a TS% better than .600. 14 years with a Ws/48 better than .200.

John Stockton was just the ultimate prototype for a point guard, but now that title is slowly being taken by Chris Paul.

2. LaMarcus Aldridge (2006-07 to 2014-15)

P/36R/36A/36TS%OrtgDrtgPERWs/48
19.78.52.0.53211110620.3.145

*Aldridge isn't going to get any better. He already got just a tad worse with the big role he played for Portland the last couple of years.

He isn't an elite level forward. He is what Jermaine O'Neal was during the 2000s, one of the best, if not the best, 2nd tier power forwards.

You could compare him to Abdur-Rahim. Very good offensive players, but not elite, and not that good at the defensive end.

No worries Portland fans. They are still very much a Playoff team when healthy, and if Lillard gets better they could probably steal homecourt from someone.

3. Bruce Bowen (1997-98 to 2008-09)

P/36R/36A/36TS%OrtgDrtgPERWs/48
7.93.61.6.5081021028.2.088

* He is what Dellavedova wants to be.

I hate Bowen and everything his style of play stands for. Going under players legs, karate kicking, head butting...He was just the perfect example for a player that probably wasn't talented enough to
make a roster early in his career, so he turned to butcher league tactics. He did try to injure players. There are plenty of videos that prove that. Just ask Vince Carter.

NBA players should be above that.

He was one of the best perimeter defenders in the league and is famous for having season tickets for sitting in the corner on offense.

Fuck you Bruce Bowen.

4. Dwight Howard (2004-05 to 2014-15)

P/36R/36A/36TS%OrtgDrtgPERWs/48
18.312.91.5.5981109922.0.178

* Dwight has been under a lot of criticism since he left Orlando. He wasn't as good at any category on the floor, and was labeled as being soft.

I won't try to defend him since he left Orlando.

But during those days, he was unfair. If Dwight continued playing like that, he would be mentioned as one of the best centers of the three point era. Don't laugh, his stats were that good.

He was elite defensively, and very good on offense. Combine that with efficiency, terrific rebounding and consistent 20 point games, and you get a Finals appearance no one thought you could make.

In his prime, Dwight was the best defender and rebounder in the game. He's raw but just so strong on offense that it doesn't matter.

Leaving Orlando was the worst thing he ever did.

Other Notable Player Shoutout

Bimbo Coles wasn't really that good but has a cool name. Andrew Bogut wears it in Golden State where he just won a Title. Dick Barnett was one of the better guards during his playing time. Derek Harper was a good combo guard who spent his best days in Dallas and New York. Kirk Hinrich went from an upper-tier point guard to being one of the best role players in the NBA. Nenad Krstic had a promising start to his career, but couldn't get starter minutes later in his career. Fat Lever is one of the best rebounding point guards of All-time. He averaged 9.3 rebounds for a year, and he was 6'3. A very good offensive player in his prime. Jabari Parker looks like a player who'll have a long and productive career in the league. Pat Riley wore it during his time with the Lakers. Evan Turner still isn't a good offensive player but has all the tools to be one. Jim Washington is yet another 60s/70s guy you never heard of but was a double-double player during his prime. George Yardley was one of the best small forwards of the 50s, as he led the league in scoring once. Vlade Divac wore it in the Lakers and Hornets where he had his best years, but is remembered for those great Kings teams.

I was a huge fan of Dwight and was lucky enough to watch 4 games live in Orlando with my mates one of which is a Magic diehard but the way way Howard pushed out SVG and forced his way out of Orl and some of his off court issues have really turned me against him.

Maybe if Howard doesn't get hurt, he gives stock a good run in this one

I'm surprised that you haven't just picked Celtics for each number so far

This easily is Stockton thread. But yes, injury less Dwight would have bought himself a couple votes but it's not really a discussion now. Move on.
