-7th number of the many
-#4 was won by Adrian Dantley
-#5 will probably come down to just two players
-You can vote for players in any way you want: On-court impact, Off-court impact, championships etc.
Nominees:1. Kevin Garnett (2007-08 to 2012-13)P/36 | R/36 | A/36 | TS% | Ortg | Drtg | PER | Ws/48 |
18.3 | 9.7 | 3.2 | .564 | 111 | 97 |
21.1 | .191 |
* Was just past his prime, but he was amazing on the defensive end. Amazing. Won a DPOY and title in the process. He also noted another Finals appearance but lost.
Garnett remained a huge factor on the court during his Celtics days, but his last Celtic season was a clear drop-off which his BPM and VORP clearly show.
It's really just between him and Kidd for the title.
2. Carlos Boozer (2004-05 to 2014-15)P/36 | R/36 | A/36 | TS% | Ortg | Drtg | PER | Ws/48 |
19.5 | 11.0 | 2.7 | .552 | 107 | 102 |
19.4 | .140 |
* So the Bulls fans hate Boozer for not playing defense. That's true, he wasn't very good at it. But his scoring and rebounding numbers during his prime are clearly All-star level. He was efficient, but couldn't play really big minutes due to his performance on the defensive end and the fact he could easily get into foul trouble.
Still a good player.
3. Jason Kidd (2001-02 to 2006-07)P/36 | R/36 | A/36 | TS% | Ortg | Drtg | PER | Ws/48 |
14.5 | 6.9 | 8.7 | .507 | 106 | 99 |
19.9 | .154 |
* The best defensive point guard of the era and one of the best ever. His Nets team had some great defensive season during his time there, including finishing 1st,1st,4th,7th and 4th in the league.
Kidd wasn't good on offense, other than his terrific passing. He wasn't a scoring option and yet still managed to lead that Nets team to two straight Finals appearances. Amazing. The East was also pretty
damn weak in those years.
Luckily, he added a three point shot and had success with a team with offensive firepower later in his career.
I still think Garnett is going to take this one.
4. Josh Smith (2004-05 to 2012-13)P/36 | R/36 | A/36 | TS% | Ortg | Drtg | PER | Ws/48 |
16.2 | 8.4 | 3.4 | .516 | 102 | 103 | 18.4 | .099 |
*Remember that time where the whole NBA was saying Josh Smith was the next great foward ?
Those weren't all lies. He could run, rebounds, pass and defend at a high level. He was pretty much the perfect stretch 4 of/for this era, except one thing. He couldn't really shoot. What a bummer.
So he loves to shoot. Who doesn't ? It's just some players realize they can be more efficient to their teams success in other areas. It's really a shame Smith didn't turn out to be the perrenial All-star player he easily could've been.
5. Baron Davis (2005-06 to 2007-08)P/36 | R/36 | A/36 | TS% | Ortg | Drtg | PER | Ws/48 |
19.6 | 4.4 | 7.9 | .517 | 109 | 107 |
19.8 | .127 |
* Remember back in the #2 thread when I said Moses Malone shouldn't been penalized for wearing the number for a short tiime?
Davis should.
The only reason why I put him here is because of that amazing series where they knocked out the Mavs. You'll find Josh Howard in the shoutout secion of this post.
Davis was a good scorer and passer during his Golden State days, but he wasn't good enough of a player to be considered a threat to Kidd/Garnett. There are players who could've easily replaced him
in the votable opetion, but neither are good enough to make a difference in the end voting results.
Other Notable Player ShoutoutJosh Howard was a 18/7 and was actually relevant in those Mavs teams.
Cuttino Mobley because his epic dunk contest reactions and scored a lot.
Robert Horry because he won a lot of titles wearing that number. Also that shot agaisnt he Kings is one of the best NBA Playoff highlights ever.
John Bagley had a few good years while wearing the number during his 11-year career.
Steve Blake had some solid years with the Lakers.
Rudy Fernandez was fun to watch during his Blazer days.
Danny Manning was a pretty good scorer who averaged 20/7 on .549% TS during his prime.
Jim McMillan had a solid career and should that should be noted.
Ron Mercer because he was inefficient and still took a lot of shots.
Billy Paultz because he had a good prime and was a notable defender.
Kendrick Perkins because fuck you.
John Paxson because he wore the number when he won a few titles, with you know, the Bulls.
Jalen Rose because of the Fab Five, getting 81 dropped on him and actually being a good offensive player during his prime.
Dick Van Arsdale because Dick Van Arse sounds funny. He did score a lot.
Tom Van Arsdale because he too scored a lot.
Juwan Howard was a 17/7 not so efficient guy but still got paid a lot of money. Fab Five baby.
