All Five Hawks Starters named Player of the Month

ATLANTA -- The Hawks were rewarded for the first 17-0 month in NBA history with another first on Wednesday -- all five starters were selected Eastern Conference players of the month for January.

All-Stars Paul Millsap, Jeff Teague and Al Horford were honored by the league, along with the other starters, Kyle Korver and DeMarre Carroll.

5 players? I don't think this been done before. WTF is Silver doing.

Personally, I think it's really silly. I guess that's something of a knee-jerk reaction to doing something out of the ordinary, but it still strikes me as pretty dumb. I mean, did they name the Heat's starting five Player of the Month when they won 27 games in a row? Did the Bulls' starting five win the MVP award in 1996 when they won a record 72 games? Is it really that hard to pick a standout player that they have to resort to something so gimmicky in the name of making history?

I don't care for it at all, and it only makes me concerned about Adam Silver. He seems far too eager to making sweeping changes and fixing things that aren't broken, all in the name of putting his stamp on the commissioner job. He's supposed to keep things running smoothly and address issues as they arise, not make change for change's sake. Ridiculous.

Next thing you know, the losers of the NBA Finals will be getting a smaller "participation" Larry O'Brien trophy.
