The PG position is becoming so loaded in the league. Exum and Smart added to the list of potential beasts.

Re: 2014 NBA Draft

So I admit that my prediction of Embiid sliding out of the top ten was pretty out there, but third overall? To the team that picked a player who had to miss all of last season due to injury? I guess if they have that much trust in his abilities, potential, and likelihood to recover and remain healthy, fair enough. Still, I thought they might err on the side of caution after last year.

Randle to Lakers. Wonder if he'll take Gasol's place or Kaman will come off the bench with Gasol or Randle in the C position

Randle is too small for a Center. Great pick by the Lakers btw.

It's Philly, Andrew. They're continuing their tradition of grabbing every large cripple they possibly can. Remember Noel, Bynum, Brand, Webber, Ruland? Embiid will now join them on the all-time all-injured Philadelphia 76ers team. I can't belive the Sixers never used up all the valuable assets they had on acquiring Yao Ming, Greg Oden and Bill Walton. They could still sign Oden in the summer and hopefully they'll do so.

So Philly fans can now start to get excited about watching the best center on the team sit out the season for the third year in a row. Awesome.

Later on, Hinkie grabs Saric who isn't coming to the NBA for at least a year, likely two years. It appears we'll be tanking even harder next season. As much as I'd like Thad to remain, it would definitely be better for his sanity to get traded already.

The most hyped prospect in the 2015 draft class is Jahlil Okafor, everybody. He's a center as well. Though I'm afraid the Sixers aren't interested until his knee/back/foot/something gets shot.

I like what the Heat did there. And OKC got the solid center which btw they have 4 now, Perkins -> Adams -> Collison ->McJosh.

But would you have been happy with somebody else picked at #3?

This was no brainer. Surgery Embiid had wasn't anything career threatening. I hear Michael Jordan had it himself in his early career. Even with widely known back issues, this guy was still consensus #1 pick. Would you have really liked to see your team passing on this kid for Exum?

But I hate their pick at 10th that turned out to be Saric. I am just not too keen on this prospect. I'd rather have preferred McDermott.

Anyway, it wasn't like 76ers were going to compete in 2015 anyway. So I think Embiid was a great pick up and Saric's kinda excused in Euro as well, for rebuilding by stacking up on talent.

Re: 2014 NBA Draft

Fri Jun 27, 2014 5:43 pm

MJ was an otherwise healthy player. Embiid is troubled by injuries since high school. For a player of his size back, foot and knee injuries tend to be far more serious and possibly career ending. I'd gone for Exum at #3, as he seems to have been the best player available. Taking Saric on the other hand wasn't that bad, even if he spends the next season outside the NBA.
I hope that pickimg Randle pays of for LAL. His size/speed/wingspan could be a problem against longer and/or quicker players like Dirk or Ibaka...

Re: 2014 NBA Draft

Fri Jun 27, 2014 6:51 pm

Most knew as Embiid was going top 3 regardless. Exum is a MCW clone based on report. This just means 76ers made the logical choice. But it probably doesn't matter what 76ers would have done differently, people were going to wank anyway.

I will admit that I was wrong about the Celtics. I thought the worst they could do was Julius Randle. But somehow they fuckulated everything and gifted Randle to the Lakers.

Re: 2014 NBA Draft

Fri Jun 27, 2014 7:28 pm

Even if the '76ers do not intend to play Exum alongside MCW, he could've proven a valuable trade chip. Well the draft is over and we can't change the outcome.
What the C's did was strange indeed. Maybe it's a move to (finally) ship and replace Rondo...

That's why they are trying to dump Perkins on Heat.

Sixers looking to tank again this season. But the twin tower of Embiid and Noel sounds exciting with MCW this team has the potential to be good barring the injuries they just have to fix the role players.

Exum is an unknown. I'd have considered trading out of the #3 spot, at least listened to offers for it. Perhaps they did and didn't like any, no way to know really. Even so, Exum may have been a valuable trade chip. I highly doubt anyone's giving anything valuable for Embiid, given the state he's in.

Just so it's clear, there's nobody in this draft class who would make me happier than a healthy Embiid. If he can stay healthy, I think he's by far the best prospect here. Unfortunately, there may not be such a thing as a "healthy Embiid", just like there was no such thing as a "healthy Bynum".

Remember how everybody was amazed at how he's only been playing three years and he's already showing significant skills and drawing Hakeem comparisons? Well, now consider that he's only been playing for three years - including one season in the NCAA with rather limited minutes - and he already has significant problems with his back and foot. The foot thing is very similar to the injury that killed Yao's career, I've heard. His body just may not be able to take playing professional sports.

Maybe I am being a bit too pessimistic, but it's hard for me to be optimistic given what this franchise has been doing for the past decade. I'm just frustrated, I guess. Every big name we sign, every big name we trade for, every high lottery pick we make is an injured big man (+ Evan Turner). It didn't work out very well with Webber. Or Brand. Or Bynum. Still no idea about Noel. They just don't learn from their mistakes...

...or from others' mistakes, for that matter - as proved by the Saric pick. I can accept waiting for a late first rounder or a second rounder, but I don't terribly love using my lottery pick on a guy who is not coming in at least two years. And coming over after that isn't a guarantee, either. He could be the next Toni Kukoc, or he could be the next Fran Vasquez. At least, as part of that trade with Orlando, they got back that 2017 pick that was part of the Howard/Bynum/Iguodala trade. Still, I would have loved trading out of the #10 spot and exchanging it for a couple of picks in the mid-late teens, something similar to the McDermott trade to Chicago. Could have gotten us Payne and Harris, for example.

Oh well, it is what it is. Let the tank make its rounds for another year. Hopefully beat that longest losing streak ever this time instead of just tying it. Hopefully with Greg Oden on board, too.

Noel and joel about to be block city

only thing they block is the view of first row ticket holders cuz they wont be able to see the game over them while they're nursing on the bench

Re: 2014 NBA Draft

Can't believe the Magic gave up both a first and second rounder to move up two spots in the draft. Payton did have the best hair stats in the combine though. On the other hand, I like what Philly is doing - gearing up for another sub-20 win season by drafting an injured guy and someone who won't play for them until 2016 (if ever). You have to be that cynical in today's NBA. Wonder if I could get on the team this year?

Don't be silly, you don't have foot issues to be even considered by the Sixers.
