And then this.

"I think it is the right time," Kidd told ESPNNewYork.com. "When you think about 19 years, it has been a heckuva ride. Physically, I want to be able to participate in activities with my kids so it has taken a toll. It is time to move on and think about maybe coaching or doing some broadcasting."

Wow, the co-ROY of Hill in 1995 also made his announcement.

Looking at his age and his recent struggles (even if he denies it), you could see it coming.
Kidd had an outstanding career and was always one of my favourite players. I felt really lucky when he finally won his ring together with Dirk.

Kidd's prime was around 1999-2006. Like Hill only one guard in Kobe clearly topped him. With another two guard (Ray Allen) topping him in all three sum-up stats. As for the point guards:

Agree with pretty much everything you said. Not a huge surprise after 19 seasons, but he's definitely had a great career, one of the best point guards of the three point era and for that matter, the entire history of the league. I definitely enjoyed seeing him finally get a ring in 2011.

I thought about making the Grant Hill thread a combination with Jason Kidd, since they entered and retired together. But he definitely deserves his own. He was a really entertaining player to watch, particularly when he played for New Jersey.

@RealSkipBayless 4h
JKidd 2nd best PG ever after Magic. 1st in PG rebounds, 2nd assists&steals, 4-time 1st team all D. Deadly 3pt shot. WINNER. Isiah more 2G.

Considering Stockton leads both steals and assists, I think Skip might have been over-zealous with that statement of him being the second best of all time. Then again, Skip seems to have a career based on being over-zealous. Still, he's not too far off.

Kidd has a ring. Stockton doesn't. Skip Bayless is never wrong.

Somewhere in the top ten at least sounds about right in my book. Second after Magic, though? I too would have to give that to Stockton.

Wow, I didn't know he was 3rd behind Ray Allen and Reggie Miller for 3PT FG made.

Disappointed that the video only showed one clip of Kidd in Phoenix with the blonde dyed hair and it only showed the back of his head.

Jason Kidd will meet early this week with Brooklyn Nets general manager Billy King to pitch himself as the team's next head coach, according to sources close to the process.

Kidd's meeting with King was originally scheduled as an open-ended discussion about potential employment with the Nets. But sources told ESPN.com on Sunday night that Kidd is determined to convince King that he is ready to make an immediate jump into coaching after retiring last week.

I imagine that'd have to be the quickest jump to the coaching ranks since the player-head coach days fell out of fashion. Best of luck to him, that'd be interesting to see.

The Nets? Kidd should talk to Avery Johnson for some advice if he doesn't wanna be the next victim of Deron's killing spree over there.

I like the idea. We all were gonna miss Kidd. Might as well see him as a coach. For sure, it's going to be interesting.

Meanwhile Patrick Ewing has paid his dues for years, yet he can't get a head coaching job.

I'd like to see Ewing get his shot at some point, though as future HoF point guard I'd say that Kidd looks like a better choice on paper.

Jason Kidd has emerged as the strong frontrunner to become the Brooklyn Nets head coach and could be hired before the end of the week, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.

Kidd is working to construct a coaching staff, and possibilities include former Detroit Pistons and Nets head coach Lawrence Frank and Pistons assistant Roy Rogers. There's no one locked into place, sources said. Yahoo! Sports

Sources confirmed to me that Jason Kidd has been offered the head coaching job with the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets would not confirm or deny

Aaawww Kidd loves Frank. ROY ROGERS WOOT!

He's divorced. He and and his ex probably hate each other because of how they separated. His kid/s are probably teenagers now and want nothing to do with him.
Remember that kid with the weird shaped head with the hot chick that the cameras always show in the crowd during the 2002 and 2003 Finals.

The leaky Nets boat says Kidd has basically been hired to a three year contract.

Nets officially are denying it.
