'Frontcourt' to replace F, C

Thu Oct 25, 2012 2:16 am

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/85449 ... signations

In a shockingly common sense move, the NBA is finally removing the center designation by combining C with the forward positions. So much for Roy Hibbert becoming a perennial all-star...

It is just for the allstar game.

Indeed it is. Given this and that the rookie team isn't positional at all, I could see this applied for the All-NBA teams in the future.

Those teams mean nothing in the regular season. With the exception of the rookie/sophomore game,it is not like they actually play against each other.

Yeah, it's just for fun. Do you think there's any harm in this change?

I think it's a kick in the ass to anyone who plays the Center position. Not only does it mean they have to outperform other centers to make the all star team, but other forwards as well.

Finally they've done something that makes sense. Although it wouldn't surprise me in the least if the NBA (or should I say David Stern) did something borderline crazy as their next move.

That was my initial thought too, but there are really only a few centres in the league that'd be inclined to vote to the All-Star Game and two of them - Howard and Bynum - are still likely to get voted in anyway. I don't mind the change.

Yeah it kind of goes both ways. Before, a really good forward might not be able to make the all star team if there were a lot of forwards in his conference that were more popular and putting up better numbers. I guess this improves that.

Hopefully they expand further and allow three guards if they need to.

Another approach would be to allow fans to vote for five players they want to see in the game, and leave it up to the coaches to devise the starting lineups.

It's to get rid of a stupid problem with the coach voting that often resulted in two reserve centers being chosen even though nobody wanted any.

Why would they need to allow three guards?

Why would they need to allow three forwards? Why take away the center position? I'm just saying they might as well be flexible based on the voting.

Re: 'Frontcourt' to replace F, C

Because they wanted to get rid of the dumb setup that kept putting lesser centers on the teams?

They should have just made the entire team fan-voted.

I like the move

Not a bad move after all. But what becomes of players who play 2 and 3 like VC, John Salmons, Danny Granger and Iggy? There's still that stupid differentiation between guards and forwards...

The same thing as always, the league assigns them to backcourt or frontcourt?

What about midcourt or center court? Why not just expand the size of the court dimensions and put more players on the court?

Well, personally I feel that they should put guards on the shoulders of bigs. And that also it should be on trampolines. And there should also be 25 and 50 point baskets.

But Stern never talks to me anymore.

Yes! Trap doors into acid pits beneath the basket to discourage anti-marketing defensive practices. Random oil spills on the court, a faux backboard with no glass, flagrant fouls just result in penalties and 5 on 4's for 1:30. We should be making this into a video game.

Look at you fags and your loser ideas for the NBA. When you could be putting that creativity into the improvement of Slamball.
