Thoughts on adding ads on NBA jersey? Fuck Stern, its all about money now the NBA jersey will look dirty just like in Europe/soccer
Sun Jul 22, 2012 10:46 am
Yeah, it's almost like the NBA thinks it's a business or something.

As if we aren't aware of fineness of Kia's technology already.

And it seems they can't think of a new ad other then their dumb sandman idea...
Sun Jul 22, 2012 2:16 pm
I thought only 2x2 jersey ads are allowed?
Sun Jul 22, 2012 3:09 pm
It'll look strange if they end up doing it, one of the things I like about NBA jerseys in general is that they've been able to avoid plastering advertising on them. However, it sounds like it's going to be small and it's a smart business decision, so I can certainly grin and bear it.
That's not the only change
they've approved:
The competition committee altered a few rule changes with respect to the use of video replay, primarily in the final two minutes or overtime of games.
At any point in the game, officials can now check video replay on all flagrant fouls.
"So the call is flagrant foul and then you go the tape, and you decide whether it's a 1 or a 2, or in some rare instance, maybe even a common foul," Stern said.
Officials now can use video replay in the final two minutes of overtime to decide whether a defender was in or out of the restricted area around the basket on charge and blocking fouls. Replay also can be used for goaltending calls in the late stages of games as well.
In September, the competition committee will look at flopping and fouls away from the ball.
More positive steps, in my opinion.

I hope he sticks around long enough for this to happen.

You'll be waiting longer for Netscape to recover from being a dead brand.

as long as they dont zoom of focus on the ads in the jersey, watching basketball will be fine... unless stern orders the cameraman to focus on those ads.. LMAO!!!
Fri Jul 27, 2012 6:09 pm
Oh it's like the PBA jerseys, not bothered at all.
Fri Jul 27, 2012 8:44 pm
if it's just one 2x2 patch, then I guess it won't be too much of an eyesore. As long as it is not the naming rights for the uniforms. For instance, the Adidas patch was added not too long ago, and I hardly notice or get distracted by this.
The down side to this though, big market team will again thrive, because it will be easy for them to sell these advertisement spots. So look again for big name players to move to bigger markets. I think this system in a way runs counter to the idea of the salary cap in terms of balancing out the talent to big and small markets.
Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:29 pm
Even with a salary cap to level out the playing field, at least in theory, players are still going to find a way to go where they want when they become unrestricted free agents and if that's a big market team, that's just the way it is. At the same time, stars want to get paid and the opportunity to be the star on their team, and big market teams aren't always going to be able to offer them that chance.

Im guessing that they will add that adidas logo on the jerseys like they did to the ones you buy.

I doubt it will happen in the NBA. Is the NBA following the WNBA's footsteps?
Sat Jul 28, 2012 12:24 am
The WNBA jerseys, (some of them) dont even say the name of the team since it is covered up by advertisements.
Sat Jul 28, 2012 1:46 am
So will 2K or Live just plaster the name of the game or MLB 2K or Madden on it?
Sat Jul 28, 2012 10:50 am
Doesn't FIFA feature accurate jerseys with real advertising? I assume the NBA games will do the same unless there is some kind of issue with the licensing, in which case they probably could just replace the real ad patch with EA/2K branding.
Tue Jul 31, 2012 10:56 am
The ads are going to be small, if it comes to pass.
Tue Jul 31, 2012 12:08 pm
is it really official? I can't take it
Tue Jul 31, 2012 12:17 pm
It's been approved so it can go ahead in the future. It won't be happening until 2014 at the earliest if it does, however.
Sat Apr 16, 2016 10:18 am
Is it right to resurrect this thread because of the news that NBA owners approved to have ads on jerseys? I know this was 4 years ago and now it is really happening.
Sat Apr 16, 2016 10:48 am
Apparently it'll be happening the season after next. Well, it was a good run...
Sat Apr 16, 2016 11:56 pm
I'm actually surprised that it's taken them this long to do it, given how integrated advertising already is on every segment of every broadcast/sports show ("brought to you by...", "Toyota halftime", "Taco Bell player of the game" etc.), not to mention the the all-star weekend Kia stuff.
Maybe they could put the sponsor logo on the lower back region of the jerseys like other sports do, so that they don't mess up the design of the front.
Sun Apr 17, 2016 3:51 am
I don't see it as a huge deal being there as it's only supposed to be like the size of nba logo on current jerseys and would likely be across from the nba logo or above the name on the back.
Sun Apr 17, 2016 4:04 am
Well, as long as it stays small, people will get used to it. Of course, the MLS and WNBA already have ads, but no one watches those leagues. It is definitely a big deal that the first of the 4 major sports leagues is doing this. I could see the NFL cashing in since they're obviously #1 and could command a lot of money for the space.
