3 year deal worth the MLE. Ray Allen to Miami then.

They would dump Allen for this? I guess they see something in Avery Bradley like Sauru does. Allen allegedly wasn't too pleased coming off from the bench but Terry wouldn't have issues with it. But still is a downgrade from Allen to Terry.

Ray Allen still has a standing offer on table, doesn't he? 18 mils for 3 years from the Celtics. The Heat can offer only 3 mil an year, which is half of what the Celtics offered. Sounds like a long shot for the Heat as there are other chasers for Allen, but in any case it goes down well for the Heat, Ray shouldn't have any problem fitting into the team. Despite coming off from an evil empire, he's a good-hearted guy and should feel right at home in South Beach.

Celtics, Sauru, Hollinger, and benji (with his own stats! To be mentioned as he demands it!) all seeing the same thing.

http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_ ... atters-now
John Hollinger has been messing around with the NBA's new advanced stats tool, and has noticed that Boston's defense over the last 15 games has been just about the best defense of the Kevin Garnett era, all things considered.

Many tweaks have led to this. One of the keys, though, has been starting Avery Bradley:

Add a heavy dose of Bradley to the mix, and the result has been that an already excellent defense has become an absolutely terrifying one. In this nine-game stretch, the Celtics have allowed 79 points or fewer five times, and the only teams to beat them are Chicago and San Antonio.

The lineup data supports the idea that Boston has found itself a defensive lineup for the ages. Check out the carnage on NBA.com's advanced stats tool: When Bradley and Garnett play together, Boston gives up 88.8 points per 100 possessions, allows 38.8 percent shooting and forces nearly one turnover for every assist. This is scary stuff, and it's not one of those small-minute flukes, either -- they've played 658 minutes together.

You think that's impressive? How's this: When Rondo and Bradley play together, opponents average 82.2 points per 100 possessions.

That's nearly 20 points below the league average. It's in 271 minutes, so it's not as robust a sample as the data with Garnett, but good heavens. The Celtics barely need to bother with an offense if the D is going to provide this kind of domination.

actually, the Celtics are still planning to sign Ray Allen. They want them both... the only problem with that now is the money they can offer to bring him back. So the Heat has a better chance...even the the Grizzlies wants Allen's services since their not planning to get back Mayo. well see how the story unfolds.

also, the Mavs still has an option to match the offer from the Celtics...which i doubt.

That's quite impressive. Makes me wonder how far his stellar defense will take him in this league. Increased minutes along with increased role, will he be able to keep it up with energy level while providing improvement on offense? If then, this kid's scary in couple years.

yep, that belongs to Cedric Maxwell. he can't be number 3 either since that belongs to DJ. so the only number left is 13 (31 backwards)... if his going that route. his been wearing 31 since his college - hawks - mavs days... so well see.

No doubt the Celtics would love to keep him, but this signing was a buzzkill. Perhaps the Celtics did what's right for their future, but Allen should obviously be unhappy with this move.

Doesn't even need to change his role or improve that much on offense except be able to shoot the open jumper like Bruce Bowen or Shane Battier.

It doesn't necessarily mean that Allen is gone, though Terry certainly isn't a bad insurance policy if he is. It'd be a bit of a logjam with both of them there along with Bradley, though Terry and Bradley can also share time backing up Rondo. I say a good move for the Celtics.

i actually like terry over allen now though i really want them both. either one of them needs to come off the bench and i think terry can be a big spark for us there while allen needs someone to feed him now. i have been saying for awhile now that i would be ok with allen wearing someone elses jersey next season

To be honest, I'm more intrigued by this Allen deal rather than the Howard drama.

I think if he does arrive, maybe they should bench Rio & put Wade on PG?

Would you be still saying this even if it ends up being the Heat that snatches Ray? This well could end up being the move that cost Ray in return for Terry. And I am sure the Heat would rather have wanted Ray more than Terry anyways. I know it's 36 years Ray, but he's still more of a player than Terry. On the other hand, perhaps he meant to leave the Celtics whether or not Terry's signing.

I came to believe that it'll be either the Heat or the Celtics for Ray. Money I don't think is an issure anymore though for Ray. And if he decides to settle somewhere in between money and Championship, it'd be the Celtics. If it's the chance at the ring, it'd be the Heat. Finally money for Grizzlies and the rest.

yes i would. the celtics need more players who can create shots so i really like terry off the bench for us. much rather have them both but i have always thought ray was leaving anyway. dont wanna be like the mavs and wait for 1 player only to miss out on him and everyone else

I can understand how the Celtics would want Ray to stay, but this signing already put him in a position where he not only might have to resign a starting role to Bradley but also where he has to share plays and touches with Terry off the bench. It's going to be interesting to see if loyalty will play a factor in his decision. As for Bradley, I gotta admit I underrated his value by little previously. But, son, you underrated the Heat team as well so we're even now. :epicbeardman:

i never underrated the heat i said we needed bradley to beat them. i also said they were not a team but a bunch of individual players. however after getting down to the celtics they really pulled it together and put the thunder in their place. also if it means anything there is one team in the nba i want to see lose more than the heat lol
