Rate & Review the 2012 NBA Season

Postby Andrew on Tue Jun 26, 2012 6:22 pm

So, the Finals are over, the Heat have been crowned champions, the Draft is almost upon us. In the meantime, what did you think of the 2012 season?

Echoing my vote from the current main page poll, I'd deem it "Alright". Considering there almost wasn't a season, we did get some good games here and there and the strong finish to the Playoffs with the Conference Finals and NBA Finals showcasing some competitive basketball, it wasn't all bad. There was also some fun to be had with Linsanity, the emergence of promising rookies like Ricky Rubio, a decent amount of highlight plays and the All-Star game was quite memorable with players putting up big numbers, breaking records and the furious finish.

However, the lockout also made for some pretty sloppy basketball at times and we saw a lot of players go down with injury. The dunk contest was a big letdown. Being a Bulls fan, I'm obviously disappointed in the way their season ended with Rose's serious knee injury. I have to admit that killed my interest in the Playoffs a bit, until the last couple of rounds delivered some really good games to watch. I suppose if I have to lean one way I'd say that I still lean towards it being a good season, especially given the circumstances. That said, it was far from being my favourite, so "Alright" it is.

What's everyone else's take? Any favourite games or moments?

I put good because honestly? despite the sloppy basketball: i didnt care there was only 66 games. I wish the lockout hadnt been so messy and all that but the condensed season made the games feel like they mattered more. The xmas day games were great and every game i watched involving playoff teams was entertaining all season.

While the playoff story lines werent as intriguing as last year's to me, it was still entertaining and its been one of the few years ive actually tried to watch most games. So Good from me.

Hmm.... it was alright. From a standpoint of a Mavs fan, this season was tough and short, but as an overall NBA fan, the playoffs were good, and I didn't mind seeing LeBron win. Like Oznogrd said, I didn't care (I almost forgot) there were only 66 games in the regular season, seemed like any other year most of the time. There weren't any huge storylines sadly like lasty year with all the Free Agency signings, trade deadline stuff (thanks Dwight), but this season was still an entertaining one and I guess that's all I want.

Despite the Bobcats' epic suckishness, I enjoyed the season. I liked the condensed schedule as a fan (I'm sure it was hell for the players though) as there was almost never a day with just like one or two crappy games. The WC playoffs were really good. The OKC Thunder were really fun to watch all season long. The season marks the end of *some* of the irrational Lebron hate. Also one of my favorite players won DPOY!

The downsides, were mostly the dismal Bobcats' season, the injury troubles throughout the season that hit most teams harder than usual, I missed Brandon Roy ( ).

Still, I'm just glad there was a season.

That would be a strange reason, but I'll tell.

Last year, there was a channel for NBA. But the televising rights of NBA was bought by another television group and the matches, the channel etc. moved to another system which I don't have.

That's it.

I'd rate this season as good, nothing more and nothing less. Some games were a pain to watch with teams shooting low percentages from the field, that surpassing the 80 mark was a challenge itself.

The entire season though, like most seasons, I just followed the Rockets. I was happy enough when they held a playoff spot for the majority of the season, too bad they had to blow it near the end, allowing Utah and Phoenix to catch up to them. I did like the emergence of Kyle Lowry and Goran Dragic, but Kevin Martin and Luis Scola had to sink in order for that to happen.

I don't mind LeBron winning a championship at all, but I was really hoping the Spurs, and then young OKC (when they eliminated SA), to win it all. Definitely looking forward to next season, thankful that this time, there is no doubt about whether there will be a season or not like last year.

I rated it as excellent. I had a lot of fun following the NBA this year. I don't see how someone can rate it as being bad (unless they are just thinking about their own team).

In particular i enjoyed following LeBron and the Miami Heat. I'm not saying i hopped on their bandwagon or anything, but their story was most interesting to follow for me. I thought LeBron got very overcritisized and i was hoping he would win a ring to shut everybody up, and create some history along the way. He did both. I'm satisfied.

I was also heavily involved in some fantasy basketball teams with some very competitive friends of mine, so that made the league extra fun. It's a shame that there was no preseason or summer league games. But on the plus side of a condensed 66-game season, there was a game every night!

I gave up on it after the Mavs-Lakers game that finished 70-73, only coming back after the NBL season - which I found far more entertaining, personally - had finished. Then Miami, the only team in the league I didn't want to win the title, proceeded to do just that. I really have nothing positive to say about the NBA this season.

I'd say between good and great. I really enjoyed the season and while I was annoyed initially about the Heat winning it all, I'm happy with the result because LeBron deserved it. Like a lot of other people, I also jumped on the Linsanity bandwagon, which was fun while it lasted too.

As far as the Nuggets are concerned, I loved the rise of Kenneth Faried, along with the return of Andre Miller. Seeing JaVale McGee have a few big games in the playoffs was awesome too. I'd probably rate the season great if the Nuggets made it past the Lakers... they were awfully close there.

I can definitely relate to this. Although i enjoyed the season, I found myself questioning whether it's worth following the NBA anymore. It seems like so much of the game is dictated by subjective opinion by referees. It makes it hard trust game results.

The season is alright but it's turrible because of how the Mavs played this season.

Dirk not in shape, Lamar Odom drama, the center rotation :facepalm2:.

66 games in a tight scheduled season I thought made this season more interesting. There were lots of good games nearly everyday and great match ups every week. I paid much attention to mostly Lakers, Heat, Bulls, Knicks, and Mavericks. All of them had ups and downs and provided storylines that kept me interested throughout the season. Of course, the playoffs were filled with emotions and excitement for me as the Heat overcame series deficit couple times to eventual win for the title. Superb season I thought this was for the Heat and overall one of the better seasons in recent history.

Agreed, though that'd still be a valid position to take if it affected their enjoyment of the season that much.

The season was alright. I thought the tight schedule was more entertaining as we got to see good matchups more often, with the downside being injuries and some players not in shape (Lamar Odom). There was some good drama like the Howard deal and the emerge of Linsanity. The biggest let down for me was the Playoffs, especially the injuries to Rose, Howard, Bosh, even Stoudemire and Linsanity. I also expected more spectacular individual season performance, but the only one I remember was Deron Williams going for 57, which even isn't all that impressive considering it came vs the Bobcats :D But we did get some of them in the Playoffs, like Lebron in ECF game 6, that Westbrook game in the Finals, Rondo's performance in game 2 I think vs Heat. Not to mention the furious comeback win by Clippers in the 1st round. So the season was alright, but leaning to the good just as Andrew said.
