I like it. Not sure he truly deserves DPOY or not but it wasn't like he was getting credits in anything good he does on the court from many folks out there. So it somewhat evens out I think.

I'm pretty surprised by that selection, i thought it was between Dwight and Ibaka. But he certainly isn't undeserving. He turned the Knicks into an elite defensive team (#5 in defensive efficiency), which is weird to even type.

However you can't help but wonder whether this decision was made based on his reputation from last season with the Mavs.

Thank darko. Best player on the Knicks all year and turned them into a top 5 defensive team. Pleasantly surprised.

I believe Serge Ibaka was the rightful and deserving Defensive Player of the Year next to Dwight Howard. He is the core reason why the Thunder are great defensively. However, he was not the only reason like Dwight Howard did in Orlando - since the Thunder also have Kendrick Perkins alongside him.

Even still, Dwight Howard should have had the award despite being injured. He lead the league in rebounds and blocks per game prior to the injury.

The only reason Dwight didnt deserve the award (I believe) has alot to do with the trade deadline and his questionable "sudden inability" to play for Orlando in the Playoffs. Was his injury really true or was it a cover-up so as not to jeopardize the Magic's playoff ticket sales? :(

Does not compute.

How is having your 2nd best player playing in the playoffs jeopardize ticket sales? :?

They didn't vote for Dwight because he already won three in a row. LeBron can't win it unless he puts up crazy steal and block numbers.

The Thunder weren't "great defensively" not that the voters would care, but Ibaka only got 7.5 rebounds a game.

Will be interested to see the votes, especially how many Josh Smith got.

The fun part is that is while Chandler may be a good defender (as he's been for like a decade), it's his absurd offense that makes him a superstar level player. But you know, your team wins and that must mean you're amazing at everything.

Like that constant choker Dirk. Losing in the first round all the time.

I thought it'd go to Ibaka, which wouldn't have been completely unwarranted, but Chandler certainly deserves it. Great to see him get the recognition.

Lol. So true. And that confuses people often times where his real value really lies as media constantly praises his defense.

I dont get what youre saying.

And I dont think the ticket sales go up further nor remain stable because Dwight isnt playing.... definitely it'll go down. 2nd best player? not unless were talking about Miami.

I don't think he is a superstar and he also has like no offensive skills except finishing strong. His offensive efficiency is out of this world though, since he knows what he can do and what not, something many players don't know.

Pretty close. Seems pretty fair, we're likely looking at the All-Defensive teams there too.

Dwight missed a dozen games, had a slightly down year and didn't play for a top 10 defensive team. Had it not been for that (and that press conference lol), I doubt the media would have had a problem giving Dwight his fourth DPotY.

Chandler, Josh Smith and LeBron are the only legit candidates in my eyes. I'm surprised Smith didn't finish higher (I thought the Hawks would miss the playoffs this year, but Smoove has been dominant on that end all year), and LeBron's offense is more absurd than his defense, but those would have been solid choices as well. Chandler would still get my vote as the Knicks' improvement over last year was on the defensive end, and the Center anchors the defense the most.

Chandler is by no means a superstar in this league. He is simply a role player, and I should say one of the best ones at that. Just because he won the award doesn't mean he's any better than he was before, even Ron Artest won it before.

Plus this year he can't even get the ball in the last seconds. As for Tyson winning this, didn't expect it, he deserved it more last year anyways turning our D around, but still the Knicks defense has improved thanks to him and Woodson.

I still feel Ibaka's in the conversation. His rebounding numbers are lower than you'd perhaps like but he's been a monster protecting the paint for the Thunder this year. All things considered he may not have been the best choice, but I don't think he would've been completely undeserving.

Chandler is obviously not a superstar. He has never made All Star and hasn't won any jack shit other than a ring and DPOY this season. But his efficiency is historic the best since Wilt and excels at things that most people can't. The problem is none of it is flashy. But it doesn't mean he is worse than some of superstars out there.

I don't think it's fair to compare Chandler to Wilt. I mean yeah, the shooting percentage is impressive this season, but you are comparing a guy who takes 6 shots a night to a guy who used to take 30. My point is that Chandler is a great defender and would find a spot on any team (except the Lakers and Orlando) and would provide them with good play for his role, but let's not blow this out of proportion and just leave it to that.

When Wilt shot 65% and 73% in his last two seasons he only took 7-9 shots a game. In an era when teams took 30 more shots a game than ones today.
My point is that Chandler is a great defender and would find a spot on any team (except the Lakers and Orlando) and would provide them with good play for his role, but let's not blow this out of proportion and just leave it to that.

So Tyson Chandler would start for any team in the league except for the lone two with the two best players at his position? So where's the "blowing things out proportion"?

his really a big lost for the mavericks.. the reason i think for that because chandler wants to secure his future for a 6 year deal from new york than a 1 yr extension but baggy from Dallas..
