How do we trade a Dwight Howard?

Postby TGZ on Tue Mar 13, 2012 12:04 am

Whats ur take on this...

Dwight for Andrew Bynum... Seems like a good deal but is Orlando willing to make Bynum a centerpiece... Is Bynum really worth a Dwight...? IMO, nope (im a laker fan but if im in orlando's position, this is just a hard deal to swallow)... Pau and Bynum, its silly but that would be a quick sign of the trade papers for Orlando, no doubt I would do it...

Monta Ellis... Nope, unless you give Curry and David Lee... But still, for me, it wouldn't improve Orlando's situation and they will just lose more of there identity or power or whatever you will make of it... Besides, this aint one of the destination Howard wants... And if u get Ellis, you might as well call Orlando the "Orlando Warriors"...

KG and Ray Allen... Pass...

Shawn Marion... Cumon...

How about a Steve Nash... He's still good and I believe he still has some MVP caliber maneuvers left... But I think Nash is set to retire with the Suns... If he just stayed with Dirk, he would have been an MVP and Champion by now... Man i miss those nash and dirk connections...

Josh Smith... Still a no go... Josh and Joe J, why not but for sure not a possibility...

In conclusion, it would really be a suprise for me if Dwight is going to be traded before the deadline because i just can't see what kind of good deals Orlando can get... I believe Orlando should pull all of its resources to keep him and get a complementary scorer or play maker...

What do you think?

I think they are going to try and move him for a bunch of picks and young players.

I think thats the back up plan... Rebuild Orlando... But I can see ur point since i think Dwight's body language obviously says, he wants to stay but he already wanted a trade so basically he wants to go out the best way...

If he really wanted to go out the best way... for me they should have been hush about the trade request...

Nobodies going to give up as much as you're thinking. He's a free agent in the summer, he's been very clear where he wants to go. Unless you can get him for very little and retain the heart or core of you're already successful team, he's likely to leave you.

At this point Lopez and Marshon Brookes and maybe some picks for Howard doesn't look out of the question.

I think Orlando does not trade him. They are working on a deal to change the roster.

Latest rumors a three team deal for Monta Ellis.

Would like to see that happen

If I was the Lakers and could land Howard at cost of both Bynum and Gasol, I would pull the trigger. But if have to take on Turkglu's contract, it's a whole new different story. Because with salary of either Bynum or Gasol, the Lakers should be able to fill the void of one star.

Dwight Howard is a confusing fella. He said he only wants to win a ring, but when the Bulls talked with Orlando about a potential trade, Howard refused because he would be a sidekick, not the face of the franchise with D-Rose along. What is it with this man?

He said a lot of things and the media always hyped it up no matter the seriousness. At many times, he refused to talk about it yet media kept asking the same questions over and over, leading him to say whatever comes to his mind at that moment. People say he should shut up and play. But yet wants him to speak up and hear from him.

He even said that he's interested in South Florida as a possible landing spot. It's possible if the Heat fail to win the ring and want to replace one of the big three through sign-n-trade. But for now, I don't think anything on the table is serious.

I know Howard is just messing with Magic but hypothetically speaking isn't it possible?

Yes, it's possible in a universe where Miami will trade LeBron or a universe where Orlando will take Bosh.

Those are not our universe though.

You know what... I think Lebron and Carmelo should have been an example already for Orlando on how to deal with franchise players in his last year of contract... But instead, made the same mistake of ruining the whole team with this trade drama... Im pissed coz Orlando should have handled this better... Dwight for me is an exceptional player and putting him in this kind of light just kills his superstar level and makes him look selfish...

Im still betting my hairy balls that Orlando will not trade him and hope to all that is almighty that Dwight was just pranking management about the trade request...

No kidding. They're going to burn some money on somebody to hopefully sway Howard to stay, only to see him leave anyways. Learn from Utah, the man is trying to be professional about it (initially at least) and now you're pretty much on your knees begging him to stay. As soon as rumors start, or a trade is demanded, you either debunk it, or get him the hell out of there. Nothing good comes from prolonging anything.

I think something or someone got in his head and told him that he could dictate things, but it's backfiring on him. What did Shaq say? "Be careful what you wish for." However, Dwight is 27 years old and right in his prime. Something needs to be done before he starts wearing down in a couple years and his career is described as "should of, would of, could of." Any move this close to the deadline will be frantic bullshit.

As per Woj: Dwight Howard: He’s determined to leave the Magic for the Nets, either now or later

As volsey said, with that in mind you're not going to get a great deal for him unless there's a chance he can be persuaded to sign an extension elsewhere. Perhaps someone takes a chance on renting him for half a season in the hopes that he decides to stick around and gives up a player or two of value along with some picks, but right now I think they either try to trade him to the Nets or take a chance on being able to get him there in the offseason via a sign and trade.

Interesting perspective.

But I think it's more of a case where Howard is stuck in a position he simply finds hard to say NO upfront. Dwight Howard on several occasions expressed desire to leave Orlando very clearly to certain teams. The management still believes they can change his mind, being faithful and all that and sits around doing nothing to get anything out of Howard. That's ok if they really believe they can pull it off but what are the risks. Come this summer and when Dwight doesn't stay, we'll be seeing another Lebron hate I believe.

Supposedly, CEO Alex Martins is the only one holding out any real hope at this point. As Woj put it in that article:

With the combination of Howard’s disdain for confrontation, desire to be liked and a pragmatic belief that a trade is no longer in his best long-term interests, Howard has created an illusion with the Magic that there are factors that could cause him to sign an extension with the team.

It seems that he does want to move on, but has some reservations about it and still a sense of loyalty to the Magic, as well as a desire not to be the bad guy in the situation.

Very true. Whenever he talks I get this feeling of "I don't wanna be a bad guy but liked by all". Most of time he will say what his fans want to hear. It's obvious he left door open for signing an extension at this point. But wouldn't be surprised he ends up somewhere else and gets targeted.

WallaceNBA_ESPN: Dwight said he's informed Magic he wants to stay for rest of season. Said they now must "roll the dice."

AlexKennedyNBA
Dwight Howard: "For the past two or three weeks, I've been telling (the Magic) that I want to finish the season here."

AlexKennedyNBA
Dwight Howard said the Magic have an opportunity to contend this year and he has made it clear that he wants finish the season in Orlando.

Of course, staying beyond this season is another matter entirely.

Lol this is just dumb now. You're on a relatively young team, who you say is contending. You want to win a championship, so you ask to be traded?

I don't know whether he didn't think things through, didn't expect it to blow into a huge story like this or whether there's other circumstances for him wanting to leave Orlando (and not just winning a championship). But I tell ya this whole situation is dumb. Every time I listen to an interview he's saying something different or contradicting himself.

"Like I've been telling management this whole time I just want out"
"Like I've been telling management this whole time it's completely up to them"
"Like I've been telling management this whole time I just want to cuddle with Deron WIlliams"
"Like I've been telling management this whole time I want to stay for the rest of the season"

Quit talking.
