VC has always been my favorite underachiever... but now he has signed with a team i dislike. so now i have to root for the Mavs to win it all again so Vince can get a ring finally. at least he is joining up with Kidd again. he should fit right into things in Dallas seeing as how the two of them already have chemistry from playing all those years in NJ together. looks like a great fit for VC. thoughts?

Seems like a solid move on both sides, though the loss of Chandler definitely hurts the Mavs. For them to repeat and Carter to get his first ring, they'll need to do something towards replacing what Chandler brought to the table.

Andrew, Dallas brought in someone named Lamar Odom. He was a sixth man of the year, and can play nearly every damn position. i think the void left by Chandler isnt as big as you think sir. but as far as VC goes... i am happy to see him playing for a contender (again) but i fear he will continue to be a year or so too late... (again. think Orlando.) now if only Steve Nash and Grant Hill can escape Phoenix and land on a contender as well.

Really?Wow.

Lets put it this way. with Odom you get a more versitile player who can handle the ball, make plays and hit the 3 pointer. Chandler is a defensive Center. thats it. they both can rebound very well. Chandler has a higher feild goal percentage because he mostly shoots the ball close to the basket. when you got half a dozen 3point shooters firing from outside all game long, the rebounds and second chance points come with that. Odom gives them more options especially since he can play backup to anyone on the frontline. Dallas just needs another big body to take up some space, perhaps a Joel Anthony type. Haywood is a very capable starting Center so they will be just fine with Odom sliding over to the 5 when Haywood rests.

I think that's what Andrew was saying in the first place. Someone who can fill in Chandler's role as it was one of the more important ones that lead them to a championship. Same with most championship teams in history.

Exactly. Odom is pretty versatile but I'm not sure just how comfortable or capable he is playing at centre for any extended period of time. Haywood is solid but he's coming off an injury and Chandler was getting the lion's share of the minutes even when Haywood was available. Bottom line, Chandler played a big role in the Mavs' championship even if his numbers weren't always eye-popping. Having Haywood and acquiring Odom helps, but the Mavs are still weaker in the middle for having lost Chandler.

I am very excited about this as a VC fan, Mavs were one of my favorite teams last year.
If they manage to bring Dalembert or someone better in a trade, their roster will be arguably even better than last year.
Their core remained the same, Kidd and Carter played with each other before, Odom joins Terry as two of the best 6th men in the league and most players can play and guard multiple positions.
Even right now their rotation after losing Chandler and J.J is not that bad:
PG - Kidd, D.West, Beaubois
SG - Carter, Terry
SF - Marion, Odom
PF - Dirk, B.Wright, Cardinal
C - Haywood, Mahinmi
Hoping this year will be the year VC gets his ring!
