Wow Kenyon Martin demands to be traded since they couldn't give him the contract extension he wanted. I wonder where will he be shipped to?
Boston for Walker?
Portland for Rasheed? ( hey its good for them; good start on getting a clean image!)
Dallas for NVE+ who knows?
I'm really high on Portland getting him for Rasheed. K-mart and Rasheed both are very good and talented players, Rasheed just got the on/off court problems, but I see Jason Kidd fixing him up good so those problems won't exist. It will also help clean Portland image which is part of John Nash, the new GM job to do. (

It seems that the issue here is all about money. He wants an $87 million deal but the Nets can only offer him $19 million less.

oh ya in the Portland trade I think it will be
Martin & Mutumbo for
Rasheed & Patterson or Wells
It works out money wise, fixes Portland image and they get a decent return (i know Mutumbo is old and washed up but at least ur team image is better which is what they want)
of course if Martin is a Restricted Free Agent ( i dunno if he is) Nets should keep him and see if he continues to improve and then disuss contract talks about getting the Max. He only was getting 16ppg, 8rpg, 2apg, 1 steal & block per game...not the best of stas you know considering he has Jason Kidd throwing him allys for easy points. Now if he was getting 20/10 a night, that's a different story..

they should try Martin,Kittles,Mutombo for Rasheed,Anderson, and either Wells...Outlaw or Woods three out of 1...but basically i would take Woods cuz of his offensive ability that'll work real well wtih Jason Kidd........

damn martin will go
Sat Aug 09, 2003 10:10 pm
It is good for Martin cause in "the Swamp" he didnt got much better than he was first....hope there will be a better place for him!

What a dreamer. He doesn't deserve the max. If it wasn't for kidd he'll be just a bo outlaw type of player.

Martin & Mutombo to Indiana for Jermaine O'neal.

this will never happen!!! O'neal is younger and puting up better numbers than K-Mart.

Clearly you never never saw Kenyon Martin's absolute domination in college without Jason Kidd on his team...clearly you missed the last year where Martin was the only viable offensive weapon the Nets had in the half-court...and we'll ignore the fact that it's Eddie Jordan that focused Martin's anger and polished him into the deadliest Power Forward in the Eastern Conference, not Jason Kidd...
Martin & Mutombo to Indiana for Jermaine O'neal.
Martin (above) is right...this will never happen...but not for the reason he gives...but because Mutombo makes nearly $40 million over the next two seasons...I'd rather have Martin than O'Neal personally...O'Neal (and Sheed) hasn't shown the ability to take over like Martin does...I'd be more than happy with Martin/Harrington/Croshere rotating at the PF...plus Martin is one of the best frontcourt defenders in the league...O'Neal is a pretty bad defender who gets overly hyped in that area because of his shot blocking...
Boston for Walker?
That'd be like trading Wilt for Russell...Magic for Bird...Jordan for [Knicks player]...just plain wrong...
Sun Aug 10, 2003 6:45 am
Jordan for [Knicks player]...just plain wrong...

, I would trade Frank Williams for MJ, definitively. That's where you see how stupid Layden is, he never plans good trades. The Wiz would have been offering Jordan & $$$ for Frank Williams.

What is k-mart thinkin'

, ok he might be one of the best(not to say the best) PF in the east, but for demanding a huge max contract i dont know, he should prove himself this year and then talk about the extension, just like the net's management actually wants, cuz u know what happens with lots of players once they are guaranteed their big contracts, they get lazy and settle down and become disappointments(of course not all, there are many who prove their worth, but why take the risk if he has one more year to go)like shawn kemp who just ate himself to the bench
Sun Aug 10, 2003 10:33 am
if he can dominate the east and make it to the NBA second team at least he will get the max...but i doubt it that'll happen next year cuz of Mourning and Kidd...
Sun Aug 10, 2003 12:04 pm
money,money,money.......

Just as I figured. Martin/Mutumbo for Wallace/ Patterson is being talked about now

wallace could be a perfect wing player for kidd who can easily take it inside....... but he doesnt have the "take-over-game" instinct. patterson is inconsequential

(just kidding, he's alright, no kobe-stopper though

) if zo is the old zo, wallace fits better in nj then kmart. if zo sucks, kmart inside is invaluable. very risky for nj though, since kmart hasnt reached his ceiling yet and every year he gets better.... theres a reason (besides a weak draft) he was #1. on the other hand, i believe wallace has reached his ceiling.
kmart and wallace have equally high technical foul statistics too

yes, but kenyon wants out, so either they make the trade and get something in return or they keep kenyon for a year but than lose him for nothing. so.... i would do the trade
Sun Aug 10, 2003 12:40 pm
they should wait it out a bit though, kmart might've been a bit hasty and have a change of heart.
dammit, just think, if kmart had just ran his mouth a few months ago, jkidd and zo would be in san antonio.

or, *shudder* los angeles.

i have to agree with magius on this, if i were martin i would be too hasty about his decision, he is in a good place and position to take it to the finals, he will get a decent contract where he can live from(even more then most ppl earn in their entire life), why be SO greedy then, but like my sig says, 50% 'bout the money -> rodman
Sun Aug 10, 2003 7:46 pm
Exactly right, and imagine, he was coming off two subpar games in the NBA Finals, both losses and a loss for the championship, with the world watching. Imagine, demanding that kind of money is not yet rewarding for him, got to improve more, the Nets are in the right situation as of now.
Sun Aug 10, 2003 11:32 pm
I think the Nets will just keep him around until next year. Martin is a notorious hothead on and off the court and will probably back off on the trade talk shortly.
If they did trade him though, we could get some great value back. Zo can play power forward for the next two years and Nenad Krstic can take over after that...no problem.
What about sending Martin to the Rockets for Eddie Griffin and Cuttino Mobley? Both players are young and developing, Griffin can play either forward position and shoot and is a local boy (Seton Hall). Mobley can shoot, create for himself and loves to do so. The Rockets would be foaming at the mouth to make this trade also because they want to get more shots for Yao as well as a bodyguard and this trade would accomplish both.
Cleveland has a surplus of swingmen...what about Martin to the Cavs for Carlos Boozer and Dajuan Wagner. The Cavs clear out the glut somewhat and get a great power forward for the future. The Nets get a good backup at the four...and don't get me started on the thought of putting local boy Wagner in the backcourt with Kidd.
Maybe Martin, Lucious Harris and Dikembe Mutombo to the Knicks for Allan Houston, Mike Sweetney and Michael Doleac? The salaries would probably be close and Houston is exactly what we need at the two...
We need a two guard who can create his own shot and knock down open Js...fortunately the NBA has them everywhere...would Jalen Rose leave his attitude at the door? Probably not...Ray Allen? Great possibilities...
Mon Aug 11, 2003 12:28 am
i hope k-mart will stay.
Mon Aug 11, 2003 12:47 am
If i recall correct clevand's owner or GM Paxson (?) said if there were two players untouchable it would be lebron and boozer, and even Z if i was correct, so that deal would be off, about the houston idea, griffin is no where near martin though i like him, the ny deal would be doubtful for both, mutumbo at the c in ny(dunno what he still can do though)and houston at the two but who will be nj's PF? And also, the knicks arent willing to deal sweetney and what if dice get's healthy, if he would be in top shape he still has the nod over martin i believe, it wont happen either.
Imo trading martin for rose wouldnt be smart, cuz i think martin is more of a force, and if you would martin for allen then u deserve some real credit, personally i would never do it, martin is good but allen is really good(maybe slightly underrated), allen already has proven himself to be a star and kenyon actually still has to(though he undoubtfully has the potential),but i personally would never trade allen for martin unless i have a really good second SG, just my opinion though

Finally, someone who sees the light.
If the Nets get Rashhed, they will get a HUGE boost. Martin may be just about ready to make the Nets even better by removing himself from the equation.
Mon Aug 11, 2003 5:23 am
if i weree the Nets i'll send Martin and Mutombo for Wallace and Patterson
Mutombo will take lots of minutes from ZO if Byron Scott is smart enough to use him...so trade Mutombo...
Patterson has great intensity..although he isn't truly the Kobe Stopper..he can play D..that'll help with Jefferson...
Martin is young i know...i don't wanna send him to the Blazers..and Blazer has one of NBA's top roster yet then failed to make past the first rd...and the talent is their for Blazers espically if Martin goes to Blazers..but the question is is the chemistry their..can they work together...
Wallace is a more than great return for Nets..he can shoot threes..go in the lane..great shooting coming from a big man...i think he's bound for an all-star game if he improves his numbers even a little bit from the Blazers..and keep those drugs away...he's bound for another all-star game...
