MVP: Rose. pretty much a lock at this point. he's won the proverbial popularity contest although i'm shocked durant fell out of the mvp talks so early in the season despite his hype pre-season. everyone in the media & ESPN & Michael Jordan & Barkley is on Rose's nuts with Dwight at a distant 2nd.
Most Improved: Dorrell Wright. although it could be disputed that he's now getting starter's minutes, and is in a high-paced offense in Golden State, I think he still deserves it.
6th man: Odom. i know, a lot of people say he's not really a bench player, but look at crawford, terry, & ginobili in years' past. plus, if i remember right, the rule is you can't start more than half your games and he's at 34 so he's my 6th man. arguably an all-star this year, there is no contest in my mind.
Rookie: The Blake Show. the media attention on this guy makes John Wall's otherwise perfectly good season look like a failure.
Coach: Thibs. Chicago is #1 in the east with major injuries to Noah & Boozer... pretty much a lot of the same arguments for Rose for MVP belong here
Defensive: Dwight. don't see anyone else winning this for a while, though Josh Smith could contend if he has a good year.

Other than the teams, we're done here folks. There's barely any chance someone else wins the awards other than Dwight. (And MIP since the voters don't even know the award means.)
Why would anyone want to predict this crap? Who cares what journalists think? They aren't human beings after all.
Name the real winners, then we have shit to talk about.

Don't we usually post our picks in one thread and predictions in another? Or post our picks for who will win along with our picks for who should win?
Anyway, my picks for the game at hand:
MVP: Derrick Rose

6th Man: Lamar Odom
Coach: Tom Thibodeau
Rookie: Blake Griffin
Defensive: Dwight Howard
Executive: Pat Riley (Gar Forman may have a shot, but assembling the trio in Miami was just a huge coup for Riles)
All-NBA First Team:
C: Dwight Howard
F: LeBron James
F: Kevin Durant
G: Kobe Bryant
G: Derrick Rose
All-NBA Second Team:
C: Amar'e Stoudemire

I would put Cousins somewhere on All-Rookie team and I think Tim Duncan deserves a nod in the second team over Amare as well but I guess it's true his numbers have dropped huge despite the team doing well this season.

Tyson Chandler on the All-NBA 2nd team? Damn I guess it's true that you're on ZanShadow's level (no offense Zan I love you its shadow with his evil schemes). But Chandler is a good player but not that great. I would consider Duncan, Bynum, Amare, or even Gasol in this position. Maybe I could be overrating Bynum too.

People should keep in mind that when All-Rookie teams are selected, they're selected without regard for position. You dont need a Centre, 2 Forwards and 2 Guards.
Player Awards (runners-up in parentheses)
MVP: Derrick Rose - Leading a reconstructed team full of injury-prone players to a likely number one playoff seed. (Dwight Howard)
MIP: Kevin Love - Taking over the starting job and earning an All-Star berth, despite playing for a horrific team. (Derrick Rose/Dorell Wright)
6th Man of the Year - Lamar Odom. Overdue. Circumstances took these awards from him the last couple of years. (Louis Williams/James HardenTFU)
Defensive Player of the Year - Dwight Howard. I wouldnt be surprised if this ends up being unanimous. (Kevin Garnett)
Rookie of the Year - Blake Griffin. He locked this up in November. (John Wall)
Sideline Awards
Coach of the Year - Tom Thibodeau. Coaching an extraordinarily consistent team and turning Derrick Rose into the MVP. (Gregg Popovich/George Karl)
GM of the Year - Gar Forman. Built a deep team and hired an outstanding Head Coach. (Pat Riley pulled off a massive coup, but it hasn't showed on the court. Miami will probably be better in the long run, but that's not what the award is for.)

I think Love is a worthy candidate for MIP, but the problem is that he was this good last year. he really hasn't improved at all. he's gotten more minutes this year because for some reason Rambis was idiotic last year and chose to play him 28 mins a game when guys like Pecherov & Jawai never shouldve seen the light of day. i think he has a problem with playing any player big minutes.
and i cant really put Crawford or Ed Davis in the rookie teams. i feel like they have only come on strong in the last month or so, so i couldnt pull the trigger on them.
Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:13 pm
Crawford's also missed 40 games. Give him a full season and he'd be pushing for the first team. He should definitely make the sophomore team at All-Star next year.
Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:24 pm
yeah crawford's problem was that he got no PT this year. he's a Jamal Crawford clone and got drafted to Jamal Crawford's team, presumably to cover themselves in case Joe Johnson didn't re-sign. well, Joe did and Jordan got stuck at the end of the bench. I could he him starting over Young next year, he was reallly talented at Xavier.
Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:34 pm
Personally, I can't wait for Rose to win the MVP and there to be about fifty thousand players voted for in the case of MIP.
Hopefully it's not Love even though everyone is aware he exists now because of the double-double streak. I want another year where they pick someone who had a better year before but they weren't paying attention to the Magic back then like when they picked Turkoglu. But Wright is good enough since he's at best playing as well as he did last year and actually shooting worse from every location on the court this season. Seems like the standard pick under the usual circumstances.
Fri Apr 08, 2011 5:47 pm
MVP
Will Win: Derrick Rose | My Pick: Dwight Howard
RotY
Will Win: Blake Griffin | My Pick: Landry Fields (but I won't complain at all when Blake wins it)
MIP
Will Win: Kevin Love (or some other ridiculous player) | My Pick: Derrick Rose (Ironic - the reverse of my 09 ROY picks!)
DPotY
Will Win: Dwight Howard | My Pick: Dwight Howard
6th Man
Will Win: Lamar Odom | My Pick: Lamar Odom (a joke if he doesn't win it
CotY
Will Win: Tom Thibodeau | My Pick: Tom Thibodeau (lol if Popovich or Doug Collins win it)
Executive
Will Win: Gar Forman | My Pick: Pat Riley (I like Heat better as long-term contenders as three of the Bulls' top four are injury prone)
My All-NBA Teams
1 - Rose/Paul/Bron/Pau/Dwight
2 - Wade/Kobe/KG/Dirk/Aldridge
3 - Manu/Ray/Pierce/Durant/Horford
Fuck All-D and All-Rookie. And it's too late for elaboration tonight,

Would love to see Noah make an All-Defence team and I would have predicted it before the season started, but it really can't and won't happen.
Sat Apr 16, 2011 10:58 am
Here's a question. Does Kobe really deserve a nod over Wade on All NBA Team? Their stats are pretty much identical if not Wade's is bit better.
Sat Apr 16, 2011 4:57 pm
It's pretty much a wash. Wade put up slightly better stats on a slightly better team, but Kobe is the first option/primary ballhandler while Wade shares those duties with LeBron. Wade's a better player, but I'd probably give the nod to Kobe. Would almost be tempted to put Wade/Kobe on first team, then move Rose on to the second...
Sat Apr 16, 2011 7:42 pm
I gave it to Wade, because he put up more points (slightly), rebounds, blocks, steals and shot a better %. Sharing the court with LeBron made it even more impressive.
Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:49 pm
does the media vote on that too? if so, i'd say kobe wins it.
Sat Apr 16, 2011 8:50 pm
The media votes for everything.
