Like real basketball, as well as basketball video games? Talk about the NBA, NCAA, and other professional and amateur basketball leagues here.

Another Canadian....

Postby TRUball on Wed Aug 06, 2003 9:39 am

Here

Now there is again 5 canadians in the L

Rick Fox
Jamaal Magloire
Steve Nash
Carl English
Todd MacCulloch(even though he not playing he still in the L)

that is sad, that there isn't a single canadian player on the canadian team(raptors).... hopefully more teams come to canada so thatmeans more scouts which means more canadians getting into good colleges which means canadians getting into the L.... i hope teams come soon before i graduate or i doubt i can get to the league...

this is not a pointless topic and posting that something is a pointless topic is a pointless post. (N) what is pointless about talking about how there is so few canadians in the NBA game? that is not pointless and you shouldn't say other people's topics are pointless when look at pretty much every one of yours. if you have nothing to say about the topic than don't post in it, even to reply to me! :P

This Topic is not pointless at all, well infact this is the first nba canadian topic i have seen in a while,,

Back to the topic now, I think that there must be more canadian teams and players in the league, I thought that changing Vancouver Grizzlies to Memphis was a bad idea,, it would have been better if David Stern tried another canadian city,, David Stern thinks most of the canadians (like me  ) are mostly concerned about hockey!! but it aint true! if ever the nba came to montreal, it will create a BLAST!!!

I went to the last Vancouver game. And I'm finally going to go to a Sonics game this year. Probably Phoenix on December 23rd or Minny on the 27th.

No our provincial newpaper is called The Province. Vancouver and the Lower Mainland's paper is called The Vancouver Sun. Although that would be ill having that team here.

cuz that's a brand new franchise..and u all know brand u franchise suck....look how Toronto suck by then when the first came into the NBA...they're everyone's whopping boy..but now they're good cuz Stern gave the franchise time which is not fair to our fans..cuz they'd only been here wut for five seasons or so..if they'd give us four more years Grizzle will be improved greatly guareenteed..

plus one of the reasons the grizzlers were a failure were no fans were coming to watch cause they sucked that is why they moved, but i don't know why they sucked so much, cause with shareef and bibby, they were pretty good, they could had francis there too.... but why the hell did they sign bryant reeves to like a contract with like 13 mil a year!!! he wasn't even that good...

He wasn't that good, but thats what those damn hicks in Vacouver wanted to see... some white country boy with as crew cut and a thick ass mustache... when he stopped playing, the franshice lost all its attraction.

Seems like the work of THE MAN will not stop...

The problem with Vancouver, I believe, was the management. Not that the team really sucked cause they never broke the worse record of the league, which might be only 9 wins in a season.

They didn't have luck in the drafts, and the good players they were getting, those would finish somewhere else cause of the bad moves the management was making. Also I heard the taxes overthere are ridiculous, so not everyone would like to play in Canada in that situation, NHL have players maybe Canadians who are used to their system of taxes, but when any US player gets there and has to pay taxes, all of them start crying about it,

Anyway, the team was getting a good rythm when Stern decided to move them. I don't know Canada, maybe Vancouver is not the 2nd biggest marketing city in the country, and that's something Stern was looking for.

vancouver got better attendance in its first couple of years on average than new orleans got in its first year. they sucked coming in, and sucked for way too long for it to be blamed on vancouverite attendance, you cant expect people to pay nba prices to watch a team that even to the brightest optimist has a history and future of losing. i'd rather watch the whitecaps (which is not a bad thing, since whitecap games are good!).

i think david stern is just an idiot to allow that old fart heisley to give up on a city he expressly said he wouldnt. vancouver rocks!! its the number one place to live in the WORLD (officially), more hollywood films are made here than in any place not named la or ny, and has beautiful gorgeous people!!! what more d'you want? and if its such a inhospitable place for sports then why are the 2010 olympics being held here.

VANCOUVER NUMBER ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!

GO CANADA GOLD CUP!! WHOOHOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

p.s. anyone catch the fireworks and the gay pride paride monday?? hurah!

It's called the National Basketball Association. Vancouver is not in the United States. Plus, what did you want? The owners to continue to lose money because they can't get anyone to go to Vancouver even when they tell them it's full of easy to get drugs? Basketball owners like capitalism, not socialism.

Now if the Raptors continue to suck maybe they will be moved to somewhere in the nation. Like, Pittsburg, or Buffalo, or Columbus.

Vancouver never had a chance to make money, seeing as there was no feesable reason for people to invest in a team that was nonchalant toward the city. the knicks have a loyal fan base because the knicks were good, same with the celtics to an extent. but then there are the hornets and the hawks............. canadian teams are not the only ones that dont make money. if the grizzlies were good and didn't get support than i'd happily agree with you, but they werent and so i dont.

It's called the National Basketball Association. Vancouver is not in the United States.

bad form. their are fans of the nba all over the world, if you're selfish enough to beleive that only american fans should be allowd the pleasure of watching games than to each his own. but remember, basketball was invented in canada, maybe you shouldnt be playing it. (of course i dont believe this, but take a hint)

and if i misintrepreted anything you said..... sorry.

yea, Alot of Americans forget that basketball was invented in Canada, and the NBA must have more teams in canada just to show some respect to the canadian basketball fans.

Now if the Raptors continue to suck maybe they will be moved to somewhere in the nation. Like, Pittsburg, or Buffalo, or Columbus.

No, I dont think that the Raptors are going to be moved anytime soon even if they may suck or not win even a single game,, because toronto is the 4th (I think ) that has the most fans attendance in the nba!! The NBA never even bothered to try another city than Vancouver, maybe Montreal would have been a great City for Basketball,,, personnally, I live in Montreal and I travel couple of times per year to toronto (which takes 7 hours by car) just to watch some regular season games! this is to tell you how dedicated some basketball fans are in Canada,,

i got nothing against the NBA Management or anybody but I just wanted to let out everything that was on my heart

Naismith was Canadian, but the game was devised and first played in Springfield, Massachussets. The use of penicillan as medicine can be credited to an Australian, but he was working in the United States at the time, so we can't really claim responsibility for what turned out to be a great medical discovery.

As far as National sporting leagues go, it's not unheard of to have teams based in neighbouring nations. Both the National Basketball League and National Rugby League here in Australia feature teams from New Zealand. The closeness of the two nations allows us to ignore that the league's name suggests a single nation.
