http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_d ... nba-295887There are signs the New Jersey Nets are considering renaming themselves the "Brooklyn New Yorkers" in two years when they move from Jersey to the NYC metropolitan area, and we just can't help but wonder if the Nets, or New Yorkers, are a lot better than this.
Two Philadelphia lawyers have filed for trademark protection for the name, along with three possible logos.
Imho I think this a poor choice for a name. It should be something like the Brooklyn Odyssey.
from WIKI
Brooklyn is also home to many Russians and Ukrainians, who are mainly concentrated in community of Brighton Beach and Sheepshead Bay. Brighton Beach features many Russian and Ukrainian businesses. Because of the large Ukrainian community, it has been nicknamed "Little Odessa." However, recently, it has been renamed to "Little Russia" because of the overwhelming presence of the Russian population.

In Soviet New Jersey....
Yeah, that's a pretty stupid name, should just stick with Nets. I don't think Knicks fans would be too happy about them being called "New Yorkers".

Nets has too much history to change IMO......like the Sonics.....wait

Brooklyn New Yorkers is the worst name possible. Hell, if they want to change the name, they should change it to Ballers (with Dare's consent)
Wed Dec 15, 2010 12:52 pm
Yup Ballers is much better than New Yorkers
Wed Dec 15, 2010 12:59 pm
I second the Brooklyn Ballers.

"new yorkers" seems more of a placeholder name in my opinion. they could just as easily leave it as the N(y)ets if they can't think of anything good. I like going back to the New York Nets but they seem bent on calling themselves Brooklyn to differentiate themselves from the knicks and there's a big russian and ukranian population in brooklyn. the logo concepts i know are just concepts but i can't imagine any of them working. i didn't think anyone could make a worse logo than the thunder's logo, but we will see. i really hope they don't do that stupid public vote crap like the thunder.

I thought the Nets want to be like the Lakers?
Wed Dec 15, 2010 8:55 pm
I'm not sure naming the team after the Hudson is the best idea.
Although I guess if they wanted to be like the Lakers they'd name themselves the Brooklyn Deserts.

Brooklyn New Yorkers might have been a passable name in the 70s or earlier but it just doesn't seem right now. I say keep the Nets moniker.

Brooklyn New Yorkers is a bad choice IMO.
I really like the Brooklyn Ballers name, someone has to propose it,and Dare should try to quickly get the trademark protection of the name and his dynasty badge

Brooklyn New Yorkers. Go to New York then. Wow, I found a new name for Golden State then: Golden State San Franciscoers. How is it, people?
YOU THINK THIS IDEA IS GOOD TO ME, PROKHOROV.

The team is relocating to Brooklyn New York on 2012. Golden State is not specific name of a place, it refers to the state of California. If renaming it, it would be 'Oakland San Franciscoers'.
Before your start into a retarded rage get your facts straight first.
EDIT. Wait, now I'm confused. Pretty much sure that Oakland and San Francisco are different places. Nah, won't bother correcting my error above. Oakland Californians it is?

Different circumstances. Clay Bennett and co agreed to leave the Sonics' name, colours etc behind as part of a settlement which allowed them to get out of their Key Arena lease and move sooner.
