KG called Villanueva a "Cancer Patient"

Thu Nov 04, 2010 4:16 am

CV tweets:

"KG called me a cancer patient, I'm pissed because, u know how many people died from cancer, and he's tossing it like it's a joke."

"I wouldn't even trip about that, but a cancer patient, I know way 2 many people who passed away from it, and I have a special place 4 those," the tweet reads.

you forgot the best one

"KG talks alot of crap, he's prob never been in a fight, I would love to get in a ring with him, I will expose him,"

wouldnt surprise me if KG did say that but I'm surprised he's never been called one before

I think KG should have a bit more respect, not Charlie's fault he has a condition where he doesn't have hair. Yeah it's ok to trash talk, but sometimes you need to draw the line.

It's a slippery slope when you start nominating this or that as taboo and off-limits as far as things like humour or trash talk are concerned but all the same, it's kind of distasteful and frankly beneath KG. From Wojnarowski's column:

For all the instances of Garnett’s bullying available on YouTube, those two words – “cancer patient” – will never go away. This is the one that people will remember, the stain that’ll be hardest to wash away. Garnett’s 34 years old, and shamefully a man too smart – too principled in a lot of ways – to act like this. Only, he’s done it for years, and it’s now a bigger part of his legacy than an old Boston Celtics champion will want to believe.

The NBA lost one of its true tough guys this week, a cancer patient named Maurice Lucas. He came out of a different time in the NBA, and never talked like Kevin Garnett. There was never a need. He had to back it up, the way K.G. never has and never will. The true tough guys never have to tell you about it.

I personally believe Garnett, and like they said on NBA Shootaround, if it bothered you, go get Garnett at that time

Garnett called the incident "a major miscommunication."

"My comment to Charlie Villanueva was in fact 'You are cancerous to your team and our league,'" Garnett said. "I would never be insensitive to the brave struggle that cancer patients endure. I have lost loved ones to this deadly disease and have a family member currently undergoing treatment. I would never say anything that distasteful. The game of life is far bigger than the game of basketball."

That first part of the quote was pretty funny.

The only reason CV got worked up is because of the work he does with kids who deal with chemo-therapy and have Alopecia Universalis.

KG kept up his tradition of picking fights with white guys then running away today.

He could at least wear padding on his elbows if he's going to be swinging them at people's heads.

If it's true what he said, then I would say that it's too far and not cool. There are things you can say to trash talk opponents but calling them cancer patients is crossing the line. Yes, there are probably worse things one can say but this is still crossing the line.

Kind of hard for KG to talk his way out of this one... if Charlie didn't look like a cancer patient, then it wouldn't make sense that that is what KG said, but since he does, any other explanation sounds a bit like horse shit.

Yeah, that was pretty dirty and far from the first time he's thrown an elbow/forearm like that. As Woj said, KG knows how to pick his targets...I doubt he'd try something like that against someone like Charles Oakley or Xavier McDaniel, or the late Maurice Lucas.

If he tried that on Jordan, Bird, Zeke, or Barkley they would probably drop 40+ pts. on his ass and win.

I've read stories how he picks on team mates. There was a good one recently about Patrick O'Bryant. I'm guessing he would have been an easy target because he was young. I wonder if B-Scal would have taken that shit. Good thing Kwame Brown didn't sign with the Celtics. KG would have made him cry like a baby.

KG definitely crossed the line. Even Sheed said there's a code when it comes to talking trash. Wouldn't be the first time Garnett has done something unsportsman-like though, hence why I've never really been a big fan of him.

Haha, now NBA fights are done on twitter. I would have respected them more had KG and Villanueva just punched it out on the floor. It used to be if you get angry about something in a basketball game, you duke it out, then and there. Whatever happened to fighting like a man. I wonder how long will it take for the nba to crack down on this.

if he tried it on bird he would not need to worry about someone dropping 40, bird would have fought his ass right then and there. bird didnt give a fuck

What? He's been doing that 'bullying' since his Minny days. Just ask a rookie Pau Gasol. It's only now that that cancer patient called him out.

I agree, I just don't understand why he had to get in public. Trash Talk is on the court, I bet they N-Word and call eachother dicks everyday.
