Zone Defense

Tue Sep 28, 2010 4:38 pm

After watching the Lakers vs Suns WCF in 09-10. I couldn't help but wonder on how many coaches will think about switching to zone defense for its advantages just like what they have witnessed in the Lakers vs Suns series.

1.) What are your thoughts on this?
2.) What are the pros and cons of Zone Defense compared to other common defenses? (e.g. Man-to-Man Defense)
3.) Watching the FIBA and other Euroleague defenses which are used against NBA Players, are coaches tempted to adopt their defense? why don't you think they are not giving in into committing to zone defense?

i'm still shocked at how well it worked against them. theoretically, zone makes you weaker at defensive rebounding since you are guarding a spot on the floor and not a man. especially with the Lakers' already huge rebounding advantage, i dunno why bynum & gasol & odom didnt clean up on the offensive boards. if it weren't for the artest tip, we couldve had a new champ this year

I guess a big factor also in that series is the bench of the Suns but still it is very surprising for one team who has no solid experience whatsoever of playing zone to be able to play it so well on such limited practice time and on the Playoffs.

That just shows you that NBA players are indeed professional ballers. The good ones anyway.

Not much. The Mavs use it at random, but good ol Mano e Mano is the way to go. Zone is used a lot for the younger leagues, because half of then don't know shit about basketball.

Why'd you think so? Could you explain please? :)

So half of the Mavs don't know shite about basketball?

WTF is "hand to hand" defense?

The knicks used a zone at times last year, but in their' case it really didn't matter what kind of defense they played.... They couldn't guard anyone, ever.

Someone pat this guy on the back for knowing another language.

gotta love it when someone tries to be condescending and ends up looking like a dumass. especially when that person doesn't want underage rape laws to be in place.

Exactly where do I look like a "dumass"? You're also still failing to comprehend my point about statutory rape laws, apparently because you're incapable of realising that women are individual people rather than one homogeneous group with no variation in feelings, intelligence and maturity.

Man to Man defense

...but 'mano' is Spanish for 'hand'.

This is America and we don't speak none of that Mexican'.

The Suns Zone worked as long as it did because they overplayed it on one side and didn't give a shit if Artest took threes. And then he fucked them over at the end when nobody expected it, and Laker fans were screaming at him for each shot.

you look like a dumass for not knowing what mano a mano meant in this context

Come to the south, its practically the new national language.

If I look like a "dumass" for that (despite knowing full well exactly what it meant in that context), how do you look for not being able to spell 'dumbass'?

Re: Zone Defense

You are one annoying little fucker.

You just disagree for the sake of it. Not to mention you steal all your opinions and try to formulate them in such a way that people will think it's yours. Sickening.

you are such a massive dick. don't fucking come on here acting condescending and then expect to get away with it.
take your forum-nazi shit and fuck off

That someone else holds the same opinion as I do does not mean that I've "stolen" their opinion at all, nor do I need to formulate it such to give the impression of ownership myself since my opinions are my own. Of course, since I tend not to make up my opinions at random they'll generally be similar or identical to the opinions of others, but that doesn't mean I can't also hold that opinion. At no point have I ever claimed to hold an opinion I don't actually hold.

You wrote all that and all I read was "bullshit".

You try too hard to be perceived as intelligent. Way too hard.

Funny, you seem to read that regardless of what I write. Monitor problem?

No, I don't. I'm not even sure how I'd go about doing that, seeing as a portrayal of greater intelligence than that which I legitimately possess would necessitate knowledge I could not, by definition, have. I have zero intention of creating a particular perception of me, be it with respect to my intelligence or anything else.

Can't be, every monitor I read your posts on seem to still be bullshit. So yeah, must be your doing. It probably has to do with the fact that you just derive your opinions from that Penn & Teller show, which is surprisingly called..."Bullshit!".

No, I don't. Really? Is that why you are so conceited & have an entire website (which seems to be completely plagiarized) going on and on about how "awesome" you are? That falls under "trying too hard" in my books.

It doesn't even bother me that you try to be pseudo-intelligent, what bothers me is that you try so hard not to conform to what could be perceived as "normal". Top that off with a fake air of arrogance which seems so forced it's pretty sickening. "Oh yeah hate me cuz I'm awesome, w00t." I really doubt anyone buys in to your shit, because at the end of the day...that's all it is. A bunch of bullshit.

But in Spanish we don't say Mano a Mano defense. We say "Hombre a Hombre" (man to man) or "Uno a Uno" (one on one).
