Doobie's future fantasy league. *Idea and long read*

Mon Sep 20, 2010 8:15 am

Well this will be the last year I am hosting the unofficial league for NLSC, I have an idea for a bigger and better league I want to start next year. If someone else wants to pick up the unofficial one then they are welcome too.

I want to work on my idea for next year during the 2 leagues this year, I want to have awards, and I want to be able to make the league worth something. I will list all the rules and ideas I have, I don't know if anyone wants to make this the official one or I might just completely make it another league, it's up to the forums.

- Up to 20 teams, 4 divisions, weekly rosters, 6 different positions and 4 bench positions. PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL.

- 11 Categories : PTS, REB, AST, STL, BLK, TO, FG%, FTM, FT%, 3PTM, 3PT%

- Divisions will change every year. The top 4 teams the previous year will be seperated, then 5-8 will be seperated, and so on. So example, 1st,5th,9th,13th,17th will always be in the same division in a 20 team league.

- If someone doesn't pay attention during a year without a legitimate reason (no internet working or yahoo messing up or something are good reasons) will not get invited the next season to participate. So in other words all of us who have been guilty of not paying attention should be really focus for this league.

- No random drafts anymore, the champion gets to decide which he picks he want, the person who came in 2nd chooses after the champion, and so on. Worst team gets last choice of pick, and new people who come to the league get the picks that are left, they choose in the order they sign up in.

- Have a panel of 5,7,or 9 vets vote for awards at the end of every season, the voting will take place during the first week of the playoffs. I hope the people that join me in the voting are honest and not biased, since chances are they will be in the league themselves.

- The awards will include:
-MVP (Doesn't always have to go to the team with the best regular season record, for example it can go to a team that was 10 games behind first but absolutely dominated every category they won every week and the person in first place barely won most of there categories.I'm guessing it probably will go to the team with the best record at the end of every season.)

-Defensive Team of the Year (To the team that dominated the defensive categories the defensive categories during the year, STL, BLK, REB.)T

- Most Improved Team (A returning team who has improved from one year to the next, will probably be the team with the biggest increase in win.)

- Rookie Of the Year (A first year fantasy player in this league, not in fantasy in general, for example, Amphatoast decides to return and joins this league 3 years down the road, he is a rookie. Basically the best rookie in our league.)

- Team of the Month (The first week of every month, the voting squad gets together and talks about who should win the team of the month, doesn't need to be the team with the best record that month, it could be a team out of the playoffs beating the top 3 teams in one month, or it could be a team who just dominated the whole month, or it could depend on the quality of the matchups that team faced that month.)

- I want to attempt to do a weekly thread about matchups of the week, players who are on fire, big trades or pick-ups that people on this league did during the week. I want to highlight players who who had very good games, and also say my predicitions for the next week. I could use help with this, maybe someone doing the same things as me and we have discussions about it. Also want to do the top 5 fantasy games of the week. It will be made every Monday before 7:00 P.M

- This year I will do this for both leagues and see how it works out, getting everything together. Next year I will only do this for this league, which I have yet to name.

-I will start getting this draft ready a week after the finals end. Then after the first season of THIS league ends, everyone will have 5 days to pick what pick they want in the draft, if they do not respond during those 5 days they will automatically be given the highest pick available.

- If anyone wants to help me organize this, or wants to be in the voting panel for awards please PM me. I want to make this work for the sake of fantasy basketball and it has potential to be a lot of fun. We can be more interactive with the league and I'm hoping this creates more league activity. Everyone understand how it works? Everyone who is active the first year will automatically get an invite the year after that, next year will be the only year the draft is random. I hope we can make this happen!!!

Should make it a money league also.

I would but I'm afraid that with money we'd get a lot less participants. It depends on how many people are willing to pay for it, that option is open.

some good ideas there, Doobie. with all the time/effort being put into this... money must be involved!

the nba fantasy season is around 25 weeks. i don't think $$ should be an issue for anybody

if you're up to doing the work, more power to you...

im game for at least $50. half due before the draft. half due midway thru

payouts.. there should be a vote with whatever you guys come up with

the leagues i've been in:
*80% to 1st. 20% to 2nd place
*have transactions fees... toliet bowl winner (winner of consolation bracket) wins $25. regular season best record $50. 1st place 70% of remaining pot. 2nd place %30
*3rd place 10%. 2nd place 20%. 1st place 70%

And to everybody worried about money, I'm talking about starting this league NEXT season, so you have a whole year to save up however much money you need to save for this league.

I reckon $50 is going to put people off, but I'd be in for it.

if you can't save $50 from your milk money starting now until next year, that's pretty sad

Excellent idea there. (Y) As for the money, I'll be willing to pay 50 bucks, hopefully I'll have a job by next year.

I'm PMing you Doobie, I'd like to be in the panel of voters.

I'm having doubt about the success of this money league when Doobie can't even pay $2 in the past and that happened before the troubling economic times!

That doobie didn't have a job. I have a job now. 50$ is cake for me, especially by next year.
