2010-2011 NBA Player Awards Predictions Thread

Postby MapleMire on Tue Aug 03, 2010 6:38 pm

Basically put your predictions down!

MVP: Kevin Durant (Scoring 30 PPG last season and surpassing Kobe in votes. I'm sure he will surpass Lebron this year to)
MIP: Hakim Warrick (Hakim Warrack will get more playing time now and he has a great PG to learn from)
DPOTY: Rajon Rondo (Kid is unbelievable in stealing and shutting down his opponent)
ROTY: Demarcus Cousins (I think Evans will help Cousins get ROTY, there gonna be a dynamic duo)
6M: Matt Barnes (Think he will be good off the bench)

It's award. And don't you think ten months out is a little early?

Then again you don't even need to toss darts to make a "reasonable" prediction since all you have to do is think like the media.

MVP: Kevin Durant, not for anything he may do on the court, but because he's the hero of the NBA right now.
MIP: Crap-shoot, impossible to predict the player, only the reasoning. You can only know around the start of December when there's a "breakout" player you need to "learn" about.
DPOY: Dwight Howard, who else are they going to pick?
ROY: John Wall, if he gets anywhere close to 20ppg, it'll be a Rose-like landslide no matter how many rookies outplay him. The only reason 15ppg wouldn't do it is if someone outscores him, but if he can add 7 assists to that 15ppg, landslide conditions still in effect.
6TH: Why break the six year streak of picking a high scoring (15+ ppg) perimeter player on a playoff team? (Eight if you consider Antawn Jamison as a perimeter player.)
EOY: Pat Riley.
COY: If they win 50+ games, Tom Thibodeau probably has a good shot at it.

Kind of early, but why not.

MVP: Durant's not a bad pick, I'm picking the Thunder to do well and I'm sure he'll post some nice stats. I could see the media growing bored of the same old names and with LeBron joining two other perennial All-Stars they could well be looking to give someone else the nod. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up going to Kobe though.

MIP: I'd say Kevin Love has a good shot, if he's healthy and plays over 32 minutes per game. He'll certainly have the opportunity to put up good numbers for the Timberwolves.

ROY: John Wall. Ample opportunity to post eye-catching stats in Washington and it'll snag him the hardware.

DPOY: Dwight Howard, unless the media is tired of him. I expect he'll lead the league in blocking and rebounding again this season, giving him a strangehold on the award.

6th: A bit hard to say before we've seen any rotations finalised and in action but I'd throw names like Darren Collison, Lamar Odom and of course Manu Ginobili out there.

COY: Erick Spoelstra/Pat Riley, depending on whether Riley ends up on the bench again. Either way, the Heat stand a good chance at producing the league's best record and if that happens, Spoelstra/Riley will be given credit for managing all the egos and molding a cohesive unit after some drastic changes to the roster.

EOY: Pat Riley. Has to be, the Heat pulled off one of the biggest (if not the biggest) free agent coups in history. It may or may not yield a championship in 2011 but they should be impressive during the regular season and that's what will be taken into account when the awards are selected.

MVP: Kevin Durant - For reasons listed above. LeBron's supporting cast will be too good, LeBron won't score enough, and KD takes it. (runner-up: Kobe?)
ROY: Demarcus Cousins - The Kings will stun everybody by winning 35-40 games with Cousins as the #2 option. The Wizards are horrible, with Arenas hurting Wall's stats. (Runner-up: Wall or Griffin)
DpotY: Rajon Rondo - Dwight Howard is boring!
MIP: Michael Beasley - Will lead the league in loss shares, Wolves in scoring. Minny loses 65+ games again as a result
CotY: Rick Adelman - Rox will improve a lot
EotY: David Kahn - Haters gonna hate

MVP - Kobe Bryant - Lakers will be the first seed in the West with Kobe carrying them, Miami wins about the same amount of games, but the big three all take a dip in scoring. Durant will be runner-up, but I think they'll come like 3-5th in the West and Kobe will take the hardware.

DPOY - Dwight Howard, gets kind of boring, but I don't see anyone challenging him. Runner-up - LeBron James (Total bullshit, but the press will vote for him)

ROY - John Wall - Will average about the same as Derrick Rose in his rookie year, maybe an assist or two more. DeMarcus Cousins will be runner-up, if he can play 30+ minutes.

6th man - Mike Miller - Will be the first sub for the Heat or maybe second when Anthony gets in foul trouble and with James and Wade running the point, he'll find his open spots.

MIP - Amir Johnson - He better play like his 34M deal, and stay out of foul trouble. If he can play like 30 mpg, I think he could be a 13-9-2 blocks guy.

COY - Mike D'antoni - Knicks will make the Playoffs.

EOY - Pat Riley - No explanation needed.

MVP: It won't be any of those 3 down in Miami as they're all splitting those points/rebounds/assists. I hate to do it, but I'm going with Kobe Bryant.
MIP: I agree with MapelMire on this one. Hakim Warrick will most likely start at PF for Phoenix and has Steve Nash to help him out. Things are still looking good for Phoenix even after losing Amare'!
DPOTY: OK, this will be really biased, but I'm going for Gerald Wallace! As the Bobcats' main guy from the beginning, he's still only 28 and can still improve his defense further. Living in Charlotte, I've been to games and have seen Gerald Wallace shut down LeBron and the Cavs.
ROTY: I don't know much about college basketball, so I've rarely seen any of these guys play, but I've watched highlights of John Wall's college career and he looks promising.
6M: I can narrow it down to 2. Mike Miller is obviously on the new best team in the league and will of course play behind D-Wade. He's a sharpshooter and can rack up a lot of points if he wants to. Lamar Odom plays off the bench for L.A., but I would start him before I'd start Ron Artest, because he's a real presence on the glass and isn't a bad scorer either. Maybe Odom can prove himself this season and then start in 2011-2012.
EOY: Pat Riley definitely takes the cake. If you can get the 2nd best PF in the NBA and the best SF in the NBA and add them to your own 2nd best SG in the game without going like 20 million over your team's cap space, you win.

MVP: Kevin Durant - In prime and coming off a great season should earn him much attentions. Of course his reputation of being a good kid will help as well.

MIP: Tough one. Rodrigue Beaubois. I like to see how this kid responds as Kidd is going to age even more. Probably minute increase will do the trick, if he gets it enough.

DPOY: Can't think of anyone else other than Dwight Howard. He probably is the most threatening presence on D in today's league anyways.

ROTY: Blake Griffin if he pulls down enoug boards and averages more than 15 points while his blocks and dunks make highlights time to time.

Top Bench Man: Ginobili if he stay healthy ffs. I think he has what it takes as shown in the playoffs.

COY: Is sorta like picking one from the most improved team, well almost due to Miami. Anyways, my guess is Paul Westphal.

Not completely shut down, but look at 11/27/2009. That's the game I was at. Gerald Wallace clearly outperformed LeBron. And may I add, that every time they met this season, the Bobcats won?

z02 wrote:before Stephen Jackson stopped by
I got rid of that in my post
weird, I seriously didn't remember Stephen Jackson being there... but I looked it up, he was traded a week and a half before and he played nearly the entire game!!! :wall:  oops.

MVP: Kevin Durant- he's the uprising star after all
DPOY: Dwight Howard- media will pick nobody else
MIP: Hard to decide, but maybe Michael Beasley- he'll shine in Minny
6-man: Ehh.... either Lamar Odom, kinda leaning towards Mike Miller
ROTY: Blake Griffin- if he can average 15 ppg, and pick up 7-8 rpg, with a block to go with that, he can overshadow John Wall and his Whizzards.
COY: Rick Adelman- I'm gonna agree with Lamrock on this one

I know the point you're trying to get across with your previous statements but c'mon man. The Bobcats had the best defense the past season and it has nothing to do with Gerald Wallace solely. Give credit to Larry Brown's system and the other players for willing to properly rotate in the perimeter. Even Stephen Jackson.

Completely overlooked Griffin. Probably stands just as good a chance as Wall if not better, so long as he's healthy.

I'm guessing he's wanting to head down to the pub on the corner of the road and lodge some bets with TAB.

My picks:

MVP: Kobe Bryant - now that LeBron isn't a one-man show in Cleveland, Kobe smells an opportunity to win his second MVP. Durant will be a massive road block though.

MIP: No idea who I'm going to go with for this one. I like the Michael Beasley pick that someone made above.

ROY: Blake Griffin - John Wall will be great but I think Griffin will be better and put up better numbers with the Clippers.

DPOY: Andrew Bogut - one can only dream...

Sixth Man: Lamar Odom, Manu Ginobili, Jamal Craford...

Good idea. Didn't think about Bargs. I think he'll have more of a role in Toronto now that their main big man left. You may have heard of him... Chris Bosh? I hope to see Andrea Bargnani doing really well this season, but I still it's going to be Warrick. Bargs is runner-up.

MVP: I'll go for Durant on this one. This kid is unbelievable and if LeBron stayed in Cleveland, Durant vs LeBron will be a showdown forever since Kobe's not going to play forever. Though I think LeBron still have a shot on this, team record is also one of the criteria of choosing an MVP, correct me if i'm wrong.

MIP: This will probably go to Hakeem Warrick, I agree with z02, Steve Nash will definitely help him out.
DPOTY: will still be Dwight Howard. I can see no argument with this one..
6M: Matt Barnes will definitely have a good shot at this, but I think Manu Ginobili still have the edge.
ROTY: I'll go for John Wall on this. Blake Griffin is good, but sometimes, when you're out for a season, your comeback tends to be weak. :| And John Wall's position is more likely to have the ball more often than a Center.
COY: Will go to Erik Spoelstra. Period. :cheeky:

Though I'm a Miami Fan now, not very surprising of course, I still prefer LeBron staying with the Cavs. I've been a Cavs fan since he entered the league, I swear. So it's hard for me to say goodbye to Cleveland too.

The iconic players of Cleveland has left the city; LeBron and Big Z. So definitely, I would love to see the reaction of the sellout crowd when the Heat visits the Q. Specifically, when LeBron tosses his chalk..

There is no criteria for MVP, MIP or DPOY. The only criteria for the others is that the player is a rookie, the player started 41 or less games or that the person is a head coach.
