"Bubblegum" Tate challenges you to defend your honor!

Tue Jul 06, 2010 7:25 pm

Ethan "Bubblegum" Tate (yes, THAT "Bubblegum" Tate) has declared a war of basketball on Earth!

The challenge? Use a time machine to pluck players from the past and present to assemble the best team possible to defend Earth against the Harlem Globetrotters.

Rules?
If you're a pansy: Pick whoever you want, load the team up, but make sure your purse is well-secured so nobody can steal it while you're making your list or you'll have to go the rest of the day without your tampons and lip balm.

If you're not: Only one player who has more than one MVP or Finals MVP. (This means no pairing Jordan with Shaq or Russell or even Nash!) Only one other player who has a single MVP or Finals MVP. (NOT BOTH.) Pick players based on a three year "peak" or if you're desperate like Bill Simmons, a single year. (Feel free to make a pansy list too! You've already proven you're a real man.)

And remember, the Globetrotters are here to humiliate our civilization with the shame of defeat. This is not small fries, this is A BIG FUCKING DEAL. [/biden]

So argue this, question each other, if we send the wrong team, the shame of defeat will be hoisted upon all our shoulders for the galaxy to laugh at us.

Yes, I have a team, I'm holding it back. This isn't "Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?" You can't just copy off me!

Follow the rules people! Moses Malone had multiple season MVPs, so did Bill Russell, and Kareem.

You can only pick one player who had multiple Season or Finals MVP and only one player who only had one MVP either season or Finals, so that makes two players, one with multiple MVPs and one with only a single MVP award.

If you continue this the Harlem Globetrotters will be our overlords. Sheesh.

Couldn't be bothered detailing the specific peak years of the players so as to know which period in time to go back.

C: David Robinson
PF: Elton Brand
SF: Scottie Pippen
SG: Michael Jordan
PG: John Sotckton

Bench:
Patrick Ewing
Dwight Howard
Elgin Baylor
Tracy McGrady
Chris Paul
Dennis Rodman
George Mikan

In selecting my lineup and their peaks, I considered win shares, PER, and games played. Also a little bit of ORtg and DRtg comparison.

Sorry X, you can only have one player who's a one-time Finals or Season MVP.
You must only pick one among Cunningham, Havlicek, Wade, Jerry West, or David Robinson

Unless that is your pansy list.

Here's mine, based purely on Video Games

C-Vin Baker
PF-Chris Webber
SF-Sean Elliot
SG-Jamal Mashburn
PG-Deron Williams

Bench
6-Alonzo Mourning
7-Matt Geiger
8-Avery Johnson
9-Devin Harris
10-Shareef Abdur Rahim
11-Derrick Coleman
12-Dan Thunder Majerle

Sure we'd get our ass kicked but the epicness of this team can not be contained.

based on video games without tom chambers? no mullin or tim hardaway? i consider this a failed list

so far i agree with andrews starters to a T. i like to consider players ability to play together as part of my all time lists and that line up would work great imo. as for the bench i would use

ewing
rodman
baylor
wilkins
kidd

C - Dwight Howard | Patrick Chewing | Ben Wallace
PF - Rasheed Wallace | Pau Gasol
SF - Scottie Pippen | Kevin Durant
SG - Michael Jordan (MVPs) | Vince Carter
PG - Chauncey Billups (MVP) | Chris Paul | John Stockton

Chauncey and Rasheed are in the starting five as an homage to the 04 Pistons, as well as because they'd be the best fits in that lineup. Second unit of Paul, (prime) Carter, Durant, Pau and Chewing nay arguably be better. Only four (five if you count sheed) former players because I know little about NBA pre-90's and which legends did and didn't have MVP's.

Wouldn't that be Dino Radjaaaaah?

Besides, Jao's lineup was comprised of 2000s Celtics. Radja last played in the NBA in 1997.
