Yet the Clippers kept Elgin Baylor around for 22 years. Go figure.

Always starts at the top. Bad ownership kills your franchise(Knicks, Raiders, Orioles, Pirates).

bit of an odd move firing the gm and then asking him to finish out the draft night?

Apparently Pritchard asked that he lead the team through the Draft. I admire his professionalism, though if he wants a job elsewhere he's probably not going to do anything other than be a consummate professional.

From what I heard, Blazers management asked Pritchard to finish out the night. That's what Stuart Scott was saying on ESPN, which would really just be an odd and somewhat ironic move on the Blazers' part.

The article Lamrock posted mentioned that Pritchard asked to work through the Draft, but who knows. If the Blazers asked him to finish out the night it's perhaps a bit galling, but I suppose it's comparable to working out a final one or two week period or clearing out your desk at the end of the day. Either way, seems Pritchard handled the situation with nothing but professionalism, which is admirable (and obviously smart if he wants to get a gig somewhere else in the NBA).
