Monta Ellis: Kobe is #1, I'm #2, LeBron is #3

While Rolling Stone recently declared Kevin Durant better than Kobe Bryant, Warriors guard Monta Ellis has his own opinion on who should be ranked as the NBA’s three best players.

“I’m going to say LeBron James [third],” Ellis said recently. “He can do it all, pass, score, defend, block shots. No. 2, I would have to say, me. I can do a whole lot of things: defend, score, make passes, do whatever I need to do.

“No. 1, I’d say Kobe Bryant. There isn’t one player that can stop Kobe one-on-one. He has a lot of stuff. He can defend. And of course, he won four championships.”

LeBron went to the Finals in 2007. It was a profoundly unexciting series with the most interesting event being a non-call that arguably prevented a Cavaliers victory in Game 2, but it was a Finals appearance nevertheless.

Durant is better than Kobe though. Monta however, has seen every facet of his game fall off since the moped accident (he was a legit fringe all-star in 2007-08, and I would have voted for him to win back-to-back most improved player), save for his usage of course. Now he's a sub-par shooting guard who thinks he's the shit because he takes the majority of the shots on a horrible team.

From what I've read at RealGM (some people saw the interview, must've been filmed or something) he was laughing when he said that. Was most likely taken out of context I think.

If he was joking around and it's been reported out of context, then fair enough. One would hope that's the case.

Kind of hard to believe hes the 2nd best in the L while being the 2nd best on his team.

Its a shame, all the guys that I liked from that Warriors team that beat Dallas are gone. All thats left is this clown. I don't mind it when Gil is in the news for the stupid things he does (prior to the gun thing) because he has shown that he can be an elite player. I cant hate on Monta for what he said bc there a a lot of players that feel that same way. If they feel that way so be it. If Lebron wants to he can prove him wrong on the court the he'll do it but Monta is probably the least of his worries right now. Atleast Monta is not a bum. I mean if Deshawn Stevenson was popping off then I can see. But I believe ppl sometimes make comments like this just to get a reaction out of the media just so they could laugh at them bc they made such a big deal out of the situation. Fair point, he probably did say it simply for the reaction especially if he was laughing as he said it and meant it to be a joke. Still, better to be known for actually excelling in your field than being outspoken for the sake of being outspoken.

I was actually laughing when I read that. Ellis better be joking, because there is no way in the world he's no.2, let alone better than LeBron. All that aside, I admire his confidence though.
