Roy to miss All-Star Game with hamstring injury
Posted Feb 6 2010 9:47PM
PORTLAND (AP) -- Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy will miss the next three games and the All-Star game with a right hamstring injury.
Roy has already missed 11 of the last 12 games. He was originally hurt in a Jan. 13 game against Milwaukee, then aggravated the injury on Jan. 20 at Philadelphia.
"I don't feel like I'm at a level where I can help the guys out right now," he said Saturday night before the Blazers played the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roy, in his fourth season with the Blazers, made the All-Star team as a reserve for the third straight season.
"This was not a decision that any of us wanted to make, but in the end we had to do what was best for Brandon," Blazers general manager Kevin Pritchard said. "We're hopeful that this extended rest will put Brandon in the best possible position to return to the lineup shortly after the All-Star break."
Roy leads the Blazers with 23.1 points per game.
Roy's injury is the latest to strike the Blazers, who have lost centers Joel Przybilla and Greg Oden to season-ending knee injuries.
Recently, Portland saw the return of forward Rudy Fernandez, who missed 19 games because of a back problem, and forward Nicolas Batum, who was supposed to start but had shoulder surgery just before the start of the season.

Not necessarily. They might put Ellis in, since Roy is a guard.

With Melo possibly missing the game as well, perhaps that will open the door for Ellis and Kaman.

I could honestly see Kaman being low on the coaches' list due to the Clippers poor record. We could see the likes of Carlos Boozer or Aaron Brooks make it.

I would like to see Bynum in there, Ellis would be great or maybe Tyreke

The league selects any injury replacements, though I agree team record probably factors into their criteria as well. If that's the case though, then Ellis probably doesn't have much of a chance given the Warriors have a worse record than the Clippers. Boozer and Brooks are solid guesses if the league is going to give preference to players on teams with winning records.

Who in their right mind would take Ellis? If you're taking anyone from the Warriors you're taking Maggette.
In-fact, I'd take Maggette to replace Roy just in-case you lose Anthony too. You've already got three point guards on the team, and you certainly don't need any more bigs. Then I'd rather just send Evans instead of another borderline big guy.
Then they can send Lawson to the Rookie Game.
Everybody wins.

Lamrock would definitely not be very pleased if Maggette made the ASG

Ellis shouldn't play in the ASG, but after seeing ridiculous amount of votes T-Mac and AI were getting, it wouldn't surprise me at all. I mean, everyone knows that ASG isn't about the best players, but bad selections by fans and coaches.

Aaron Brooks. There's nothing else I can say.

bring Ellis to the ASG

Lame. A conference full of guys playing really well and they send a guy who stinks. At this rate they'll send Ellis to replace Anthony too leaving a gaping hole in the team and sending yet another player who jacks up endless shots but doesn't make them.

He'll probably play less than 10 minutes, likely 5 and won't get more than a hook shot or a put back and some rebounds. We might even get to see him posterized by an East All Star. Time will tell whether this is deserved, or whether it's a fluke season.

It can't be a fluke season considering it's either worse or identical to two other seasons. The only difference from say 2008 is that he's jacking up shots like crazy and blocking shots/rebounding less.

Kaman isn't even the best Center on his team.

They should have picked Bogut.
