Nate Robinson returns after 14 DNP's.

Postby Doobie on Sat Jan 02, 2010 12:54 pm

Nate returned tonight against Atlanta, and lead the Knicks to an amazing comeback. He has had his best game in such a long time, it's amazing. I understand why he hasn't played in such a long time since a lot of times he is a headache to watch. But then he has games where he wins for the Knicks. I'm happy to see him back as long as he keeps playing like this. He has 40 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists tonight. And yes, 40 off the bench again.

Final stat line:
41 pts, 6 reb, 8 ast, 1 stl. 18-24 shooting. Keep in mind he hasn't touched the court during an NBA game in a month.

Omg he had like 20 when i checked and that was maybe early 4th or late 3rd quarter. He can score that's for sure, but I don't think he makes the Knicks a better team in the long run because he has his team killer games too doesn't he?

That's exactly the reason why he's been benched. He dropped 24 in the 4th quarter and overtime. He's going to win games for a team, but lose many as well.

Talk about returning in style. It might not win over D'Antoni but it might pique the interest of another team looking to make a change and willing to take a gamble for half a season.

Even if Nate had a good game, he will still be traded by the Knicks if they can. They are just raising his trade value.

Good on him for keeping on working even though he's been benched. Takes a good player to do that rather than sulk.

this was unbelievable to watch. even Dominique, who was doing the color commentary, was watching in awe. kudos to him. most home team guys would be pointing out bad defense instead of applauding Robinson

Nate is like the next AI. A little guy who's an incredible scorer, but is a team killer at the same time. At least he hasn't complained about starting... yet. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Nate have a bunch of 30 or 40 point games last year?

I don't know about the AI comparison, but he did have a respectable number of 30 point games last season including three straight with 30 or more at one point and a 41 point game.

OK, maybe I got a little ahead of myself straight up comparing him to AI. But if his play off the bench for that one game is a sign of things to come from him, then I do see glimpses of AI in Nate this season.

Its a fair comparison. Robinson just takes a couple less shots, and scores more efficiently. Don't get excited Knicks fans, Iverson wasn't/isn't all he's cracked up to be. I wouldn't even want 2000-01 Iverson on my roster.

Maybe they can trade Nate to Houston for T-Mac so that Nate can replace Ariza. :)

Nate Rejected Trade to Grizzlies: http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/ ... grizzlies/

A source told Alan Hahn of Newsday that Nate Robinson exercised his right to veto a trade that would have sent him to Memphis for Marcus Williams and a draft pick.

Earlier, a source with the Grizzlies denied that a deal was ever in place.

Robinson appears to be back in New York's rotation after his 41-point performance Friday night.

i think he will not going to be traded anymore because of his monster performance vs. Atlanta... D'Antoni said that "We're going with him".

That plus other antics(like playing to the crowd when the team is losing).

I think he will not be traded as he does not want to give up his Bird rights :P

Or D'Antoni yanks him out of the lineup for another double digit string of DNP-CDs. It certainly seems he's won back his spot in the rotation though.

The Knicks are hater..they like destroying people's career, especially at their prime..Destroy Curry when he was at his prime..Destroyed S. Francis...tried to destroy both Lee and Nate thus far and at their prime..traded for Milicic when he was starting to produce, only to bench him too..Still putting Harrington on the bench even though, he's their primary scorer. Trying to destroy his career too..

Not really. Curry's own attitude and laziness sent his career spiralling downward. With Francis, injuries seem to have ended his career. Milicic is a bust who has had several opportunities and come up short on them all. They haven't really done anything to Lee and Nate fell out of favour with a coach who likes short rotations to begin with. Harrington's still playing 34 minutes off the bench, so they're hardly trying to ruin his career.

I'm no expert but nba tv just critiqued the Knicks and their coaches yesterday after they have decided to remove L. Lughes from the starter rotation and no longer seeing any min. Someone appears to bipolar and making crazy decisions. No questions ask, Harrington and Nate should be starting because they get the job done. If they are being benched,it's because of ego.

Manu Ginobili gets the job done too, from the bench. There is merit in having quality players on the bench so that a team does not lose momentum when the starters come out of the game. As far as being benched because of ego, it's possible but certainly not the only reason. Larry Hughes has demonstrated a selfish attitude several times in the past, we don't know what goes on behind the scenes and in training and what players might be doing that contribute to them falling out of favour with the coaching staff.

I noticed that the NBA is an era of 'super-subs' now. The sixth man of the year award is basically useless now considering almost every team has a guy off the bench that plays more minutes then some starters. Ben Gordon, Manu Ginobli, Al Harrington, Jamal Crawford, Lamar Odom, Jason Terry, and there's probably more I can't think of right now. They are all bench players that play starter minutes.

I don't think it's really a new trend. The best sixth men have always seen a lot of playing time.

I started watching this game from close to the end of the 3rd so I saw alot of his scoring but I don't blame the coach for not playing him much. Like a few other people said he will have nights where he just dominates a game but some nights he can lose a game for you. Basicly he doesn't pass much. He's not a guy New York needs or really anyone needs you can't win a championship with one guy. I've seen Lebron carry the cavs to the finals the year they lost to the spurs but Lebron couldn't beat them by himself. Now the cavs have a real team and Lebron isn't the only scoring option. Robinson could be a great 6th man but anyone with his play style won't win you a championship by their self.

Speaking of sixth man, let's not forget there is Carl Landry who's my favorite player on Rockets. I am thinking Nate Robinson is somewhat comparable to Ricky Davis at the moment. Especially, his own shot reminds me of Ricky's desperate attempt to get a triple double. Lolz... but also credits to Nate for being an awesome dunker and a scorer at his height.
