Brandon Jennings watch

Sun Nov 01, 2009 1:21 pm

So far, Brandon Jennings have impressed me. I know it's only been 2 games but this guy can play. Almost a triple double in his NBA debut and now 24 points on 9-15 shooting. I think we can still all remember when he came out during the offseason and said that Rubio's overrated and that he's better than Rubio. He's starting to back that up with his play now, and I'll be interested to see how he plays as the season progresses.

What's your thoughts?

I watched the game tonight. He started off worse than Stuckey, shooting 1/4 and turning it over three times along with fouling any Piston who drove on him. Skiles pulled him because he was killing the team and Ridnour helped them back into the game. Then in the third quarter Jennings went insane and shot 7/7 and put the Bucks in the lead for good as the Pistons stopped playing team basketball and decided to see if they could set a team record for turnovers. (Kuester also took out Charlie V due to foul trouble and never put him back in even though the Pistons were failing to score let alone get any shots.) Jennings cooled off and went back to shooting 1/4 and acting like a jackass in the Fourth.

I expect him to be a rookie of the year candidate as Michael Redd will likely miss half the season again and/or be traded, and the Bucks simply don't have much offensive firepower. He'll pad his stats, but his erratic play will likely cause him to shoot around 37%.

Tell that to the RealGM Bucks fans. They have basically appointed him the teams best player and a superstar beyond all comprehension.

Even if he is really good, I don't expect Skiles to realize that.

He's still inexperience, no doubt about that. He makes a lot of stupid mistakes and such but still it'd be interesting to see how he develops as the season progresses.

I haven't seen Brandon Jennings play yet but if it's rookie point guards we're talking about, I'm tempted to jump on the Ty Lawson bandwagon.

So he was good or not ?

I knew he would be something special. After his comments about Rubio, he was instantly my fav rookie.

Another rookie PG that has impressed a lot is Ty Lawson. (My second favorite rookie)

But many rookies have surprised so far. Blair, Casspi, Brockman (first game), Williams and Carroll. Thabeet's 0 ppg and 2.0 rpg are a bit of a surprise.. I guess rating him a 57 in 2K10 wasn't that much off.

Speaking of Thabeet, I knew all along that he wasn't going to be effective on the offensive end. Defensive end maybe, but I haven't seen anything special in him. He can dominate in college because of his length, but in the NBA, na-ah.

So many impressive PGs now days. Brandon Jennings is one of them for sure. Nash, Kidd, Paul, Arenas, Rose, Rondo, Parker, Harris, etc... This makes me think that basketball really has evolved to be guard game.

That's why I knew he wasn't worth a draft position that high. Because he didn't dominate in college. I saw enough games of him failing to score on 6-5 guys and being out rebounded by 6-7 guys to know something was wrong there.

Well, he was fantastic in the third quarter, otherwise not so much. My point was more that he's inconsistent. Three quarters of lousy shooting and poor play, and one quarter where he was a superstar.

He was killing the Bucks in the first half, especially the first quarter, which is why Skiles pulled him.

Jennings dropped 25 points today but his field goal percentage wasn't particularly good.

Re: Brandon Jennings watch

He is so damn streaky. He opened the game 4/6. Then during the second/third quarters shoots 2/8 and had two turnovers. And then in the fourth he was merely average at 4/9.

Good thing the Knicks thought they needed yet another forward in the draft, one that couldn't crack that stellar rotation.

Of course, having a former point guard as a coach surely helps, but I wonder how this guy would look playing for D'Antoni.
He must be depressed after one season milking 40 minutes a night from Duhon.

Only been 3 games, but this fucking dude been proving every word he said during offseason is legit. I'm just impressed of numbers he's put up in 3 games, 22ppg, 0.481 fg% 0.500% 3p%, 5.3 apg, 4.0 rpg, 1.7 spg. those aren't usual numbers from a rook. he keeps this up for a season, no doubt this dude's rook of year;

Even if it's only been three games and he's been a bit inconsistent, I'd have to agree...especially with Rubio remaining in Europe until at least 2011. When Jennings came out and made those remarks leading up to the Draft, I could see it becoming a classic "pride before a fall" situation and him riding the bench with very modest numbers but it looks like he's going to be fine in the NBA. There's still the little matter of sustaining that effort over 82 games and the infamous "rookie wall" but he seems intent on stepping up and backing up his words. Kudos to him.

I thought the same; he has to back his words up if he wants to bag out Ricky Rubio. And so far, he has. I've been really impressed with him. Andrew, did you see Bucks/Bulls on One HD? At times, I felt that Jennings was the better PG on the floor when paired up against D Rose. What impresses me is his confidence. What really let me down would have been his shot selection on a few plays but that happens with most players anyways. That last shot he put up to try and tie the game was really weak. Overall, he's been playing really well. (Y)

However, I must say that I think Rubio would be doing pretty well also if he was in the League right now. :)

No, I didn't get to see it unfortunately.

Re: Brandon Jennings watch

Rubio would have had a harder time, as he would have have to share time with Sessions and Flynn. Both have been playing good so far. Jennings only has Ridnour (and Ukic).

Re: Brandon Jennings watch

Fri Nov 06, 2009 9:30 am

True, but it's possible if Rubio had come to Minnesota they wouldn't have gone after Sessions, who was being courted by the Knicks as well if I recall correctly. He'd still have to battle Flynn for minutes, but there'd be more minutes up for grabs without Sessions in the picture.

Re: Brandon Jennings watch

Fri Nov 06, 2009 10:22 am

And i think it was nearly a given that Rubio would have got the starting nod and it would be Flynn trying to win it off Rubio. That's what it sounded like to me. I still think Rubio would have made a successful transition to the NBA, a shame about the contract issues with his former club.

His first terrible game stats wise. 4 out of 16 from the field. Didn't get to watch the game so I dont know if his shots selection was good or not but 4 out of 16 definitely doesn't look good on the stats sheet.

Probably mostly jumpers, as he didn't earn a single free throw.
