Antoine Walker - Broke and in Debt

I have zero sympathy for these athletes with no respect for money and piss it all away. What a dumbass. Unfortunately, he won't be the last.

It doesn't sound like his sizeable entourage helped matters either. I do feel a little sorry for him though as he obviously didn't get financial advice he sorely needed and from the sounds of it, his spending wasn't all selfish:

But Walker's lavish lifestyle wasn't all "me-me-me." He was also a generous friend and teammate who had custom suits made for coaches, routinely picked up giant team dinner tabs and, when there were funds to spare, gave to underprivileged youngsters.

In other words, his spending selection was as good as his shot selection.

... that smiley is labeled "rimshot". I'm just sayin'.

Anyway 100 million is enough money to provide a more than comfortable lifestyle for like 130 people for their entire lives. That fat tool got what he deserves.

I kinda feel sorry for him, but on the other hand he should have known better what's worth spending and what's not. At age 33 this is pretty heavy to take but he still have time to get this sorted out.

Sounds like he better get it sorted fast though. An NBA comeback wouldn't go astray, though he's not going to get the kind of money he apparently needs.

That part makes it sad.

Apparently, he was just stupid. After all, I've seen quite a few uneducated becoming rich suddenly and lose everything gradually, ending up with nothing. It don't mean he was a bad guy. Hope to see him get back on his feet again.

You have to wonder whether he did have anyone giving him good financial advice and whether he simply ignored it. There's only so much you can do to stop something like this, a fool and his money are soon to be parted as they say and everyone has the right to succeed or fail on their own terms, but perhaps it's something that does need to be stressed even more to rookies entering the league. The big, leeching entourage is obviously something to be avoided. At this point, Antoine Walker could be quite effective as a cautionary example.

Didn't Kenny Anderson have pretty serious financial troubles too?

I can't help but feel sorry for Antoine, he's always the punchline of people's jokes... I actually didn't hate him as a player. Bogut copped a lot of criticism for what he said about the NBA lifestyle, but hey, there's probably a lot of truth in it.

I think so, I seem to remember something about him supporting a rather large entourage as well. Isaiah Rider has had his share of financial troubles too, I saw a report that he's attempting another comeback.

It would be good for him if he could actually make a comeback, eventhough he wont get the kind of money he needs like you said, but it's still better than nothing. It should be a good way to start for him.

Gambling has long been a favorite form of entertainment for Walker. After a 2001 exhibition game at Mohegan Sun, Walker once reportedly played $15,000 hands with Michael Jordan during an all-night gambling session where estimates of money lost and won totaled several hundred thousand dollars.

I always wondered how Walker became a Jordan favorite.
