Zo Officially Joins Miami's Front Office

The Heat announced Thursday that Mourning, 39, has been named vice president of player programs. Mourning, who announced his retirement in January, has talked about accepting an administrative position with the Heat since June.

One of his primary responsibilities will be to mentor players on and off the court. He already has served in that role for second-year Heat forward Michael Beasley, who returned to Miami this week after a month-long stay at a Houston substance-abuse treatment facility.

Good for him, and good move by the Heat. Zo was a pretty good citizen off the court during his career, so hopefully his guidance will help players like Beasley keep their head on straight.
