SourcePortland Trail Blazers guard Brandon Roy has agreed to a five-year contract extension worth between $78 million and $82 million, a league source told Yahoo! Sports.
The Blazers are planning a news conference with Roy on Thursday to announce the deal.
Seems like sanity has prevailed here. I think it will be worth the investment for the Blazers and so much the better to get the deal worked out now rather than risk letting him walk for nothing in return. Make the commitment now if the player's in the long term plan.

One of the top 10 players in the league in 4 years or so, guaranteed. Even possibly before then -- Roy is just such a great playmaker, scorer, and leader that he's worth every penny.

Good for the Trailblazers to keep their superstar.

If only they could get someone else to help him along the way, it seems like Roy, and no-one else is influencing the Trail-Blazers season.

Just because the media likes to pretend that teams only have one player doesn't mean you have to.

They've got lots of young, talented players. Big, strong frontcourt that can defend, rebound and Aldridge can actually score too, Oden will hopefully progress as well. The Blazers added an experienced point guard in Andre Miller - should help them, especially in play-offs. They have got Roy, fernandez and a bunch of average, young players on the wings.
So it's not like Roy doesn't have any help, though another all-star on the team sure wouldn't hurt.

This is good, expected news. Having a 25 year old superstar locked up through his prime is always fantastic. That they managed to get him for several million less than the maximum is icing on the cake.
Mayerhendrix, Do you mean for the next 4 years or so? Because he is already a top 10 player.
gangsta4life, You clearly know nothing about the Blazers.

Roy is definetely a top 10 player already. It seems that Aldridge is going to get extension too.

A strong rebounding Center position with Oden/Przy which had them at #1 rebounding last season
Very eligible scorer in aldridge who can drop 20 pts anytime.
Very good 3 point shooting wings in Webster Outlaw and Batum (all 3 very athletic and long)
Brandon Roy/Rudy Fernandez (high BBIQ and endless scoring)
Andre Miller/ Blake (one of the most stable and reliable PG combo in NBA)

It could be easily argued that Roy has a top 5 supporting cast, being 2, sometimes 3 deep at every single position, having two fringe all-stars in the front court, with the next Ariza in Batum and a solid point guard rotation, but look at his profile. Should his posts really be taken all that seriously?
On the RealGM Raptors board, homers there are claiming Bosh >>>> Roy and Bargs >>>> LMA. Classic.

In all fairness, I'd agree that Bosh is a top talent at his position but I wouldn't say he's on a whole other plateau compared to Roy. I'd take Aldridge over Bargnani in a heartbeat though.

I never knew Andre Miller to be an experienced playoff performer.
