Olympiakos double transfer hit

Fri Jul 17, 2009 10:10 pm

Rumors say that Olympiakos Pireaus( my fav team !) wants either Nate Robinson, or David Lee.
They prefer to make a move for Kryptonate as it i said on news in greek athletic sites and radio stations.
Both are unrestricted FAs.
Olympiakos also transfered J-Chilldress last year
I prefer Nate personally!
What's your opinion?

They will get neither. If they have to, each player will take the qualifying offer from the Knicks. Case closed.

That's it. Both players are Restricted Free Agents.

My thoughts exactly.

However, for argument's sake I would say if one was to go to Olympiakos it would be Nate Robinson. I think that the Knicks would be willing to sign-and-trade Lee for an expiring contract if it came down to it and they'd be more takers than Nate would with a contract in the realm of $10 million per season.

No,this is for NBA teams only.
If a European team makes an offer,Knicks can't equal it so it's up to the player to decide.
That's the rule with restricted FA's.The same happened with Childress last year :D

That's not what X is suggesting, nor am I. They are restricted free agents which gives them more limited opportunities to leave the Knicks for another NBA club, so we're saying it's possible/likely that they'll simply accept the qualifying offer and become unrestricted free agents next year than do what Josh Childress did last year. We're not talking about them being able to match an offer sheet from Olympiakos, we know that it doesn't work like that.

I think KNICKS will keep Lee and let Nate go to that Olympiakos team

The chance that Nate will go to Greece is quite unrealistic. That club is just aiming too high.

Olympiakos is aiming for triple crown(euroleague, champ, cup) but it seems that Nate was too late to answer so Olympiakos end this and now aiming for Rubio or MacIntair. almost off topic but Olympiakos is playing with Cavs and Spurs at September i think(we'll see then how competitive we are to NBA teams :)

It's not possible to tell whether they could be competitive, unless they played in the same league. European teams just use different style of play (one of the reasons why I don't watch the Euroleague). NBA teams have more important stuff to do than adjusting to that. There's still a big difference between NBA and Europe, especially when it's Cleveland and San Antonio. But anyway, I would be damn happy if I could watch any of those games.

I hope Knicks keep them both. Two of my favorite players on the team.

Nate could leave, he's nothing much besides a replaceable showboater anyway. David Lee going to Europe would be a disappointment, because he really does have more talent than that.

Olympiakos made a double transfer hit. The Greek team agreed with Kleiza for 3 years, 3,5 mill. per year and Von Wafer!. Kleiza was known that sooner or later an agreement will come but Von Wafer announced it on his twitter account. Just waiting for official news these days.:)
it seems that we have done great additions to our roster!

So they went from Nate Robinson and David Lee to Linus Kleiza and Von Wafer and you're happy about this

That's a blow for the Nuggets, Kleiza seemed to be doing alright for them off the bench and they looked to be pretty keen to retain him. The Rockets had seemingly resigned themselves to losing Wafer.

Arghh, Daryl Morey disappointed me again. I was really hoping that the Rockets would sign Wafer. His service could be really valuable now that both T-Mac and Yao are out. He provides instant offense and could really improve his numbers big time next season if he gets playing time. Sigh. I'll really miss him and his flashy moves.

I am happy cause there were thoughts of no signing after failure of sign of those 2 and there were 2 signings. And they are 2 good players for europe.

Re: Olympiakos double transfer hit

There's really not that much for Olympiakos to be excited about. Wafer probably will be quite mediocre there, and Kleiza has an option after 1st year. I don't expect him to stay there long, even considering his big contract. I don't remember who said that, but Denver needed him back. I think that he might be back after this season and try to sign a contract with championship contender (probably somewhere around MLE). As good Euroleague is, getting a ring in the NBA isn't comparable to any other trophy.

Re: Olympiakos double transfer hit

Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:03 am

The same clause was in Chilldress's contract but he didn't find any team with the salary he wanted. About Wafer, he's a very quick player and that's what the team wanted. Also the fact that Kleiza
plays either on 3 or 4 he can cover spaces from the absence of Printezis and Vasilopoulos until he gets well.

Re: Olympiakos double transfer hit

Tue Aug 11, 2009 4:58 am

That was mainly because of the current economy. 2010 might be a bit different. Although reduced cap space will affect free agent signings, I expect that bunch of teams will be interested in Kleiza and some of them will actually be able to pay him what he's worth. If he won't be satisfied with playing time or anything else, it will make the chance that he returns to the NBA after 1st year higher.

It's official about Kleiza, and hoopsyde.com wrote that Wafer signed too. Kleiza also stated that as a european he wants more to play to europe and a big european team, but he likes NBA too.
