T-Mac Change Numbers

Rockets guard McGrady changing uniform number

Rockets guard Tracy McGrady will change his uniform number to No. 3 to promote his “3 points Darfur” initiative, with an announcement expected this week.

McGrady put in the paperwork for the uniform change midway through last season and had received league approval. He was making the switch to his high school number to bring attention to his Darfur Dream Team campaign and 3 Points documentary,

Newly acquired Trevor Ariza will wear No. 1 but could not show the uniform at the news conference last week while details of McGrady’s uniform change were completed.

The Darfur Dream Team enlists athletes to help raise funds for schools in Chad for Darfur refugees in a sister school program with schools in the United States. The documentary 3 Points follows McGrady on his trip to Sudan and Chad in the summer of 2007.

Seems like a noble enough reason to me. Good for him.

(Y) (Y) :applaud: Good for him. At least he's doing it for charity.

Good for him but i think 1 is still much better on him than 3

I totally get this . . .

Trevor Ariza - Houston Threat Number 1 ( # 1 )
Yao Ming - Houston Threat Number 2 ( His Jersey is number 11 , 1 + 1 = 2 )
Tracy McGrady - Houston Threat Number 3 ( # 3 ) (Y)

Wow, you know arithmetic. Good for you.

Good move by T-Mac, but I doubt people will notice the jersey change since he might not even be playing for first half of the season.

Maybe this number change can represent the full season he can play now.

Not with the Rockets . . .

I knew this a couple of days ago through www.clutchfans.net

Some guy called "The YoYo" posted that he had a conversation with Morey and Morey told him that Ariza will be wearing #1, so all the members in that site went crazy on whether T-Mac is getting trade or changing his jerseys number.

I like this move, but I have to agree with Kris that #1 fits better on him. Maybe it's because we're so used to it. Anyway, a lot of people are saying that in addition to promote his Darfur campaign, it's also like when Amare changes from #32 to #1 after he had microfracture surgery. Sort of like resurrecting his career after having a serious injury/surgery. The main reason is definitely to promote his Darfur campaign, but this might be a small reason too. ;)

That doesn't hurt either. He's in desperate need of a fresh start, be it a rejuvenation in Houston or elsewhere.

Who knows, he might play the full 82 games of the season. (Y)

Has it been confirmed that he'll be ready for the start of the season? If he's undergone microfracture surgery, it seems unlikely.

I'm just saying that it's a possibility, not a confirmed news or what.

Jersey sales for T-Mac will go skyrocketing high.

I hope he will be able to play a full season + Playoffs, if the Rockets make it. (They need Yao for that)

Number 3 is pretty popular in All-Star players. (Wade, Butler, Iverson (PHI), Ben Wallace (DET), Chris Paul, even Marbury and Francis when they ware in shape and actually played)

Dont pay too much attention to MikeMan, getred12. He's basically teasing everybody around here.

T-Mac's stats wont be all time low, if you want the latest coverage and proper opinions, I strongly suggests you visit http://bbs.clutchfans.net/forumdisplay.php?f=9 ;)
T-Mac will be playing in his contract year, and if he wants another decent contact with any teams, be it Houston or not, he will have to show that he still got it, which he will. There's plenty of motivation for him this year, all the critics to erase, all the non-believers to prove to, and words are flying so often that he's training and rehabing harder than ever.

Just have faith and no matter what happen, we will still be proud just to be a fan.

Well said Modifly. I'm a T-Mac fan before his injury-fest sprawled over several seasons. And I'm used to T-Mac's #1 jersey. Oh well, homage and charity purposes FTW.

Might want to edit out Artest in your sig too. :P

Thanks Lean, I'm a T-Mac fan no matter what though. ;) I think we're all used to seeing him in #1 because we're stuck to that picture for 11 years. Since he's changing it for charity, I think everyone's with him. ;)

As for my sig, I intend to change it soon. I just have to come up with a new one first, maybe with Ariza and T-Mac in it instead. We'll see. :P Let's see if Kbryant8 will take another request of mine, I'm too lazy to make my own sig.
