Gordon is a great sign. I'm a huge fan. He'd be a top 10 NBA player if he was slightly bigger... but all in all, he's by far one of my favorite players in the game.
He's a steal at $55 mil for 5 years.
But... where does this leave Rip and Stuckey?
One of them (probably Rip) has to be out soon.

A great steal? He's an undersized inefficient chucker. Sure, he's talented offensively, but he is inefficient, has no playmaking abilities and is a defensive liability. I like the idea of having him come off the bench for the MLE, but not as a first option on offense with a star contract.
Like the Charlie V signing though. What a bargain.

Ok nobody panic, initiate NLSC Code: 3.413 Blue, otherwise known as Andrew Suicide Watch

He's not inefficient.
*waiting for Benji to prove me right or mock me with stats*
(Charlie really did come at a bargain)

stop posting stuff you have no idea about
just looking at stats that grade school kids can understand you can conclude he's not inefficient as you claim. i'm not even going to mention "complicated" stats like ts% or PER
btw i did post a similar news link about gordon in the bulls thread but ill understand if these 2 threads are kept separate

Bad deal for the Bulls leaving Gordon free. Darn that's why I root for the Bulls because of Gordon's old-schoolness.
I see Andrew cheering for a new team.

Thank God for that! It's a big enough signing, it can have its own thread. Official threads are frustrating for this very reason.

Okay, I'll admit it, looking at the stats, he's not inefficient. I was basing my logic on his mediocre 2007-08 season. However, Detroit is still spending 11 million a year on a gadget player who is a defensive liability and seems to already have reached his ceiling. When you spend that much on a player who is at best a fringe all-star, it makes you wonder whether they are trying to build a contender, or just a slightly above average playoff team, like the Hawks.
Ben Gordon's PER is 17, and a couple years ago had a season where it was 18.2, so benji will probably support this signing to an extent. Its not that I think Gordon is a bad player, I just don't think he's a steal like Brave Sir Rubin said.
Should have remembered there was a member on this forum named air gordon on this board when I made that post...

yep, Im waiting to see what andrew says on this

He could have asked for 15 and easily gotten it any other off-season.

Thats not true.

what logic???? in 07-08 his #'s were slightly down from the previous year but those still were solid (and bested his stats from his first 2 yrs)
Gordon definitely has flaws, don't get me wrong- he's no ricky "i'm a dick" rubio. $11mil is a lot of money but this is the NBA. players are overpaid- especially one who is entering his prime, can score 20ppg efficiently, has a history of hitting clutch shots, and never complained publicly about his contract negotiations. Detroit or any other team had to overpay to sign him away from the bulls
if you can read this you don't need glasses

Ben Gordon is gonna be a sub. He wants to take the role of super sub. -_-
Thu Jul 02, 2009 3:03 pm
Time for Andrew to finally change his avatar. I cant wait to see how he respond to this.
I now have the reason to watch Detroit Pistons games next season, cant wait to see how Gordon and Villanueva fits in. The biggest question right now is how they'll organise their rotation and playing time. What happens to Rip? I think they'll start Stuckey at PG but Rip and Gordon both play the same position and I dont think Rip will shift over to SF, so will one of them come off from the bench? If that's the case look for that player to be Gordon because he has a good reputation as a sixth man.

Yup Gordon is comin of bench.
"Ben agreed to come here knowing he would come off the bench," the source said. "That makes it completely different than Iverson coming here ... Gordon is choosing to come here and play the super sub role."
Thu Jul 02, 2009 3:54 pm
That makes it completely different than Iverson coming here ... Gordon is choosing to come here and play the super sub role.
That sentence alone sums it up. It's also irony since Iverson is still in Detroit and now they've also got Gordon, who's willing to come off the bench and be a super sub, unlike Iverson.

I wonder how Iverson will react to this, if he is to remain in Detroit he wont even get playing time.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 4:46 pm
Hmmm strange i hope he do well in his new team now bye bye Gordon (the man that i thought that is a look a look of Kobe

)..
Thu Jul 02, 2009 4:50 pm
The super sub thing is a smoke screen methinks. You don't just go to a press conference and announced that Rip's job is being taken. They probably trade Hamilton to a second-tier contender for an expiring and a draft bust.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 5:45 pm
I'm waiting for Andrew's opinion
Thu Jul 02, 2009 6:00 pm
Detroit added 2 guys who can score 20 on any given night. Gordon can even put up 30. Begin a Gordon supporter, I only wish the best for him in Detroit. His childhood hero was Isiah Thomas, so now he can be a Piston just like his idol.
Thu Jul 02, 2009 6:16 pm
Im not excited with signing gordon and charlie...
Look out opposition teams, piston frontcourt is kwame/maxiell/charlie
back the fuck up
