Celtics offer Rondo/Allen to Pistons! Pistons say no.

realgm.com wrote:The Celtics reportedly offered Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen to the Pistons for Rodney Stuckey, Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince.

League sources told Yahoo! Sports of the deal, which reportedly never made it past lower level executives as Detroit rejected the offer immediately.

The offer was made this past weekend.

 I think that if the Pistons rejected that immediately, they probably already have another major deal in the works. They probably wouldn't accept it without something else from the Celtics, but it seems to good to just reject immediately. This trade would have helped the Celtics immensely in the short term, but I really think Rondo > Stuckey. It's less awesome for the Pistons, in my opinion, but they certainly continue on the 'blowing the team up' route while getting some decent value in return.

I was in bed when i heard this, I actually curled up in the fetal position

I dont know what the fuck the upper management is on but if they trade one of the big three or rondo/house/big baby/Powe/T.Allen (get my point yet?) and it isn't for a superstar player Im not going to a game next year.

Side note. Fuck Perk, trade him but keep Scal, I love Scal

IMO, Detroit did good because they were losing in terms of players. I don't know their contracts but Prince is a great team player, maybe the best one in the trade right now

Sarcasm?

Stupid Pistons, how do you pass up any offer that includes getting Rondo.

A wiry PG that can give you a triple double and vastly improved shooting isn't valuable, I guess. At least Detroit still keeps their guards with high usage % and amazing offensive and defensive ratings.

Actually, no, not on my part. But by short term, I mean immediately. Maybe a year or so down the line, definitely not. Rondo is going to be too good, I think. But in terms of skill right now, It would be a downgrade at point, a roughly even but younger swap at SG, and a very good well-rounded SF for the Celtics.

This is all just coming out of my head though, I certainly have no numbers to support it.

This trade would have been good for Detroit if Stuckey wasn't involved. I wouldn't give him up, not even for Rondo. Kid has got great potential.

I'm not being sacarstic, from those 5 players, Prince is the best player IMO, he is a good team player, a good defender a big for his position.

Rondo is good, but if I have to choose I keep Prince

And Hamilton + Prince + Stuckey for Rondo and Allen? The Celtics thinks that Dumars is stupid?

Dumars is stupid to refuse it. Rondo is a superstar, Ray Allen will continue to be an efficient killer into his 50s. Hamilton can't compare to Allen. And Stuckey's going to be nothing special.

The trade would've had the side benefit of damaging the Celtics. Prince would've been dissappearing down the stretch in every playoff game for them instead of the Pistons.

I don't know who's dumber: Boston for offering this trade or Detroit for rejecting it. If this trade was made in someone's Pistons dynasty, they would be criticized for making such an unrealistically lopsided trade.

When will people realize that Prince isn't very good any more?

This is surprising since the Celtics is to have another legit run at championship with current line up this following season. Sure, Tayshaun sounds tempting, but breaking up the current core of the Celtics? I wouldn't be too sure about that if I was Celtic's fan.

Rondo has perennial All-Star written all over him; he and Derrick Rose are easily the two biggest up-and-coming point guards in the Eastern Conference...Stuckey is one of many talented rookies in that class and he's good but a lot of them have shown above-average talent and he hasn't distinguished himself as much yet to justify being valued more than Rondo.

Really? I know that Rondo showed a ton of promise in the playoffs, but a package like that is really hard to pass up. It's not like Stuckey is all that bad either.

I was surprised to see his name in there too, though in Stuckey they would've still had an up-and-coming point guard to work with.

If someone is traded in Boston, is Ray Allen. His contract runs until?

Maybe they want cap space to resign Rondo

I believe Ray Allen has a year left on his contract, but it's not really a situation where shedding it would give them cap space to work with for free agency.

Such a contract would be very appealing to other teams however (and Allen himself is far from useless), so that could work in the Celtics' favour if they're keen to move him.

Ainge Blasts Rondo Trade Rumors

Postby WickedNite on Wed Jun 24, 2009 10:29 pm

Ainge Blasts Rondo Trade Rumors

Celtics president Danny Ainge has again denied that the team is looking to trade point guard Rajon Rondo.

"I'm not sure why his name keeps popping up, but I'll tell you this: We love Rajon, and I think everyone in here knows what kind of a player he is and what kind of a bright future he has," Ainge said Tuesday.

Yahoo! Sports reported on Tuesday that the Celtics offered Rondo and Ray Allen to the Pistons for Richard Hamilton, Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince.

"I'm not going to comment on which trade rumors are true and which ones aren't true, but it's amazing. And I hope you can all maintain your integrity in this world of media that we live in. It doesn't seem that you have to have any source anymore. You can just write stuff and print stuff and things just come out of the air.

"It's a little bit frustrating at times because I have to manage those players and their agents and their mothers and their wives ... in some cases their children.

"The one thing I can assure you - I will never sit up here and say there is one player that is untradeable ever," Ainge continued. "But the notion we might be trading him because of some reason other than we think we can be better trading any player because of any (other) reason (is not true).

"Because of his contract situation, I've heard speculation. I've heard speculation of we're dissatisfied with him or his attitude. That stuff is so false. He showed up late for a playoff game so we're going to trade him. None of those things are true. We love the kid and we think he has a very bright future."

As if those comments weren't strong enough, Ainge went on to squash trade rumors involving any of his core players.

"I don't anticipate any trades happening in this offseason involving any of our core players," Ainge said.

Re: Ainge Blasts Rondo Trade Rumors

Adrian Wojnarowski's pre-emptive take:

Boston general manager Danny Ainge and Detroit’s Joe Dumars never spoke, but rather the Celtics had a lower-level executive make the pitch to a Pistons official over the past weekend, league sources said. Detroit immediately rejected the idea, and it never advanced to the two top executives speaking about particulars.

This isn’t an uncommon occurrence for a GM like Ainge to dispatch an underling to make that kind of a call, if for no other reason to give the top executive some level of deniability that he’s shopping his stars.
