2009 Western Conference Finals: (1) Lakers Vs. (2) Nuggets

Postby Lamrock on Mon May 18, 2009 9:29 am

The Western Conference Finals matchup is set. The Lakers were way better than the Nuggets in the regular season, but so far the Nuggets have been exceptional in the playoffs, while the Lakers have been hit and miss.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict Nuggets in 6, with Denver taking game 1 and their home games.

Nuggets in 6, Lakers are gassed out and should be blown away by Denver's energy.

I'd go with Lakers in 5. Nuggets will win one game at their home court, probably a blowout. The Nuggets have no "Shane Battier" for Kobe Bryant and the Lakers play better basketball against better basketball teams and the Nuggets is a better basketball team than the Houston Rockets.

I don't want to see shiny sky blue and player with headbands in the NBA Finals. But the Nuggets/Cavaliers showdown is a mark of the start of a new NBA chapter. But I don't want to join the Nuggets bandwagon just yet.

The Nuggets got Dahntay Jones and Anthony Carter maybe they can contain Kobe .
The only advantage of the Lakers here is their height but the Nuggets are just too energetic , athletic and hungry , and no one in the Lakers line-up can guard Carmelo Anthony ( Ariza !? LOL ) . Melo can guard Gasol as well as he can defend Dirk . If Bynum can't help his team the Lakers are a gonner and if they remain inconsistent it'll be Nuggets in 6 , Winning 2 Road Games ( Game 2 and Game 6 ) and 2 at Home ( Game 3 and 4 ) .

Nuggets/Magics too, is a sign of a new NBA era.

I'll wait for Andrew's prediction. He's the wisest here. He can elaborate the reason why the Nuggets can truly beat the Lakers. He's not the type who cusses players or make fun of them, or he can but not how the way kids make fun of players nowadays.

But that won't happen? Magic winning tonight but they cannot win against LeBron.

All the guys are talking and debating about Kobe v Lebron .
But there's a chance that won't happen .
Maybe it'll be Melo v Bron !?
1st Pick v 3rd Pick of 2003 ( Huhhh , Dumars looked so stupid when he drafted Milicic over Melo , Bosh , Wade , Hinrich and Kaman ) or Melo v Dwight . Who knows !? It's the NBA Where Amazing Happens or Will Happen :eh:
I'd still pick Nugz winning this Series in 6 .

So it might be the 1st and the 3rd pick of 2003 going for the crown. But I would stick with the battle of the 13th pick of 1996 vs the 1st overall pick of 2003.

Lakers in 7 in one ridiculously offensively potent series. However, this series will kill the Lakers physically, and LeBron will be able to blow them apart in the Finals.

Yeah , the Lakers will be physically tired in this series if they win it .
This series will have a 110 ppg average .
Expect a run and gun series .

Nuggets in 7. They're playing better defense than LA and have more firepower and athleticism. I really want to see them in the Finals against Cleveland.

Lakers in 4/5/6/7 whatever..

I just hate it when people says the Lakers are like this, like that, all this blah blah blah, because the Rockets force them to game 7.

Nuggets is showing that they are a good team, they playing like a contender.

Nuggets are hungry.
Lakers are also hungry.

Who will guard Melo? Ariza?
Who will guard Kobe? Dahntay?

It will be a good series. Hopefully..
But for me Lakers has the bigger chance on winning these one..

If the Lakers want to win, they'll have to play better than they did against the Rockets. Hopefully they will, I'm rooting for a Lakers - Cleveland finals or a Lakers-Orlando finals. ;)

Despite me rooting for the Lakers to advance to the Finals, I'm going to pick the Nuggets in 6. Dont know why really, just because I wanted to.

The Real Lakers is no doubt a Championship Team , but the Real Lakers only show up occasionally .
Denver however shows up every game in this year's playoffs .
If the Real Lakers show up they can beat the Nugz everyday and everywhere and sweep the Nugz but if the Lakers that fluked out in the Lakers-Rockets match-up , expect them to go home and be in the NBA's Gone Fishin' List .

A championship team have to show up every game.. If you want to win a championship you will have to do so.. That's why I said the Lakers cant win if they play like they did against the Rockets.

I really want the Lakers to go through, but at the same time I also hope they'll go fishing and catch a big fish. Weird.

In last series, I think emotions played as a serious factor which worked out in favor of Rocket. In other words, I am thinking the Rockets over achieved a bit but my hats off to tremendous efforts they put in. Yes, I'm a Rocket's fan but it's true that talent wise, our players were far from Lakers' level of talents. The Lakers have good energetic young players, great leaders and great veterans. They have a superstar in Kobe, size in Gasol/Bynum and a luxury of Odom coming off the bench. They proved to be the best in west last year and this year again in the season, so I believe the Lakers are a better team again in this series. Denver has been awesome so far in the playoffs and they got good reasons to feel that they can win this series, but in the end, I am betting on the Lakers. They got too much to prove with enough talents.

For me it comes down to whether LA's bigs show up or not and obviously how our bigs guard them. If Nene and K-Mart can put in consistent solid efforts and play good aggressive D on Pau and Bynum then i think we've got a good shot, cause Kobe's gonna be Kobe, but he needs those bigs (especially Pau) to fire...
