Allen Iverson Thread

Postby MikeMan™ on Fri May 15, 2009 1:56 am

We all know the Wizards may wind up getting the 1st Pick or 2nd Pick and most likely they'll draft Griffin or Thabeet .
What do you think of this line-up ?
C - Griffin/Thabeet
Pf - Jamison
Sf - Butler
Sg - Arenas
Pg - Iverson ( The folks in NBA.com agreed about this , that Washington is the best place for Iverson )
Bench - Stevenson , Young , McGee , Haywood , Mike James and Crittenton . . .
Coach - Flip Saunders
Is this effective !?

I wouldn't have high hopes of an Iverson/Arenas backcourt working like a well-oiled machine.

Well Iverson will play the Shooting Guard position and Arenas in Point Position in Offense . . .
Then they'll switch in D ( Iverson will guard PG's and Arenas on SG's )
I think Iverson really wants a ring right now . Now that he's not the young A.I. anymore .
If he wants the ring better change his mindset and be the one to adjust .
I think that line-up will make some noise next season .
All I know is Iverson will never have another 8 digit per year contract . That's for sure .

It's very doubtful that Thabeet will be 2nd in the draft, especially since Wizards have McGee. At least I think Thabeet is going to be a bust. Griffin is pure PF, so that probably wouldn't work too. If they could get rid of James, maybe they could draft Rubio and move Arenas to SG. Not sure about Iverson though, I heard he might go to Bobcats and Larry Brown.

That doesn't solve the problem of both of them preferring to have the ball in their hands and being more productive (or at least comfortable) when they have free reign to do that.

True, but if they would get 2nd pick, I doubt that Wizards might choose someone else. And we don't know if Arenas will fully return to condition he was couple years ago.

That still doesn't bode well for an Iverson/Arenas backcourt, unless one of them is prepared to radically change their style of play. I'd have to see it to believe it; players do transition into new roles but they have to be willing to accept them and be comfortable in that new role. I believe both Arenas and Iverson would still prefer to play the way they are most comfortable, the way they know how. It might still work seperately but I'm skeptical of them working effectively and happily as a tandem long term. As they say, there's only one ball to go around.

Brown and Jordan have some problem with A.I. and Larry and Iverson also said before that they won't work together again ! True Charlotte needs a scorer and a game-closer but Iverson may do again what he did on Detroit . One missed practice and then , Bang ! There goes the team . . . Down , Down , Down . . .

Iverson doesn't have a lot of options now, right? He might agree to MLE and play for charlotte or other non-contender or retire. Iverson wasn't the only guy who destroyed the team in Detroit - Sheed played there as well.

Chances are he won't get a ring next year or maybe in his career .
Hmmm , his attitude really kills his career .
Is there any Championship team that's interested in him ?
I think retiring is the worst option for him . People still have that bad taste on their tongue .
He must rebuild his legacy as one of the best players who played the game .
Possible Teams :
Charlotte
Indiana
Memphis
Sacramento
Oklahoma City
Washington
None of this teams is a Championship Team .
Unless he agrees on a 5 million dollar per year contract or below , then a lot of teams will be interested signing him .

I know this might sound crazy but how about Boston? Marbury will leave and this might be the place to win a ring. I wouldn't count OKC, they have too many great young players to sign Iverson and miss playoffs.

He could take Marbury's place there and he's better than Marbury at this stage of career.

People asked the same question about Marbury. Iverson is better scorer, he'll shoot better then Marbury's 20-30 FG %, the same passer and defender, he's in better shape and wants the ring. Why not? Btw it was Marbury who kept Celtics in the game with 12 4th quarter pts in last game.

Yeah , Boston lacks scoring off the Bench ( unless House gets on fire ! )
and Boston has the Mental Toughness . If Iverson will do the same thing on Boston , they can can take that .
So . . . is Boston the best option for Iverson ?. But he must agree on a 1.5 Million/Year Contract if he really wants a ring ! Well , he'll probably take that .

Well, if everyone is healthy next year, they will be back to real contenders. And I really like Walker since K-State. Hopefully he'll develop his game more in near future. Who knows, maybe he will be scorer of the bench they need.

Not over Allen. Allen is way better defender. At least, yet. But that depends who will they keep. He has good potential and was second option on offense right after Beasley in college.

Okay , This is becoming a Boston Thread .
I'll just bring back the conversation to Washington .
If Sacramento gets the 1st Pick then gets Blake Griffin , Memphis gets the 2nd Pick then gets Rubio and Washington falls at 3rd who's the next option ?

Wall, DeRozan, maybe Terrence Williams. They all have huge potential.

I don't know how content Iverson would be to become Marbury's possible replacement off the bench in Boston or come off the bench on any team for that matter given his comments towards the end of the season in which he more than intimated that he'd rather retire than come off the bench.
