K-Mart Calls out Mark Cuban after Mum incident

Wed May 13, 2009 7:40 pm

For those who dont know this is after Game 3 where Melo hit the gamewinner and Mark Cuban went spastic, and as he was walking out of the stadium someone yelled 'the Nuggets are thugs' and he heard it and looked over at K-Mart's Mum, pointed straight at her, who was sitting on a seat and said 'that includes your son'.

This is K-Mart's response after Dallas won Game 4 yesterday:

Awesome :D

EDIT: Melo's fiancée was also the victim of racial slurs, abuse and had ice cubes thrown at her throughout Game 5:
La La Vazquez became distressed during a heated playoff game, after being verbally attacked by some opposing fans, who were using racial slurs, calling her child crude names and throwing ice cubes. She sent her son home early and was preparing to leave herself when she was physically pushed. Although shaken, she left the premises on her own will and is happy to be at home with her fiancé and child.

"Obviously the play-off games bring out the best and the worst in fans but what happened on Monday night with the racial slurs/threats, verbal attacks on my son and physical attacks to myself by irate fans was unacceptable," states LaLa. "The fans were totally out of control. What the cameras captured was me defending myself and didn't show the abuse that was taking place."

I think at least a little bit of "Monkeys see, monkeys do" logic applies in this case of Cuban and Mavericks' fans incident here. This is definitely not the first time Cuban being involved as the center piece of such nasty incidents. He has this attitude of "I'm a cool billionaire NBA franchise owner, NOTICE ME!" which really is immature but most importantly ANNOYING and DISTURBING for lots of people. His way of apologies should have been more with changes in behaviour if he ever learned anything from past incidents and here we go we see few words of "Sorry" on his blog just to kill attention from medias. He has been not only immature dealing with his emotions, but it's also sad to see how his immaturity affected some fans of Mavericks. To make the matter worse, Stern also tries to avoid saying anything on such matters. Not that I don't agree with those and Cuban believing that Kenyon Martin is at least a bit thuggish or migh have given some such impressions, but you don't go talk to his mother about him being one. I don't know anyone in this world who wouldn't feel insulted or upset if that ever happened. This by far isn't the most digusting incident in the history of NBA, but I would say one of the most preventable ones at least.

Cuban fully deserves that. I'm already getting sick of him lately. One thing is support his team, but his actions are.. Damn, I don't really know how to describe them.. :? I guess his apology was only because he wouldn't want to meet K-Mart anywhere outside of arena...

Mark Cuban really went overboard there. Even if it was only one comment directed at Martin's mother, it was unnecessary even in that context.

But that's what can happen when you're traveling to a hostile arena to watch a playoffs game. I'm pretty sure Cuban and his family have copped all that stuff too (abuse hurled at them, getting spit on, ice being thrown at them). And Kenyon's mum would be no angel if she had really been talking trash to Cuban after Game 2 and throwing Coke at Mavs fans in Game 4 according to reports. If that's true, then she got what was coming to her. Nobody's going to get away with talking trash to opposing fans in their own arena, not even Cuban.

As long as Cuban gets involved that close to the game, the Mavs won't win a championship.

I still generally agree with the sentiments of this column. Cuban deserves a lot of credit for what he's done with the Mavericks and I admire his passion and dedication, but passion doesn't justify everything and sometimes he does take things too far and his antics are getting a bit old. If the Mavericks were winning championship after championship then it probably wouldn't matter so much. He could even sing the national anthem in the nude while jumping on a trampoline before every game if he wanted and it wouldn't matter so long as they stood atop the mountain come June. As it is, he'll still be called a distraction and he'll continue to overshadow his players. I think his passion is fine and as I said I find it admirable, but toning down some of his antics wouldn't hurt.

Some definitely would be saying winning is all that matters, no matter how jerkish he acts. Still, it's going to be hated and taunted at. It seems like he's almost trying to affect the outcome of the game on court during the game. Especially getting involved in an incident with opponent team is not something franchise owner should be doing. He's not only being influential to the teams that are playing on the court, but he's also being a bad influence to the fans by acting like a stupid clown. He should remember he's not a coach and his job takes place off the court.

I agree, like I said his antics are wearing a bit thin and it wouldn't hurt to tone it down a bit but if the Mavericks were perennial champs he'd certainly have the ultimate comeback against anyone who criticised him or called him a distraction.
