Jason Williams reinstatement attempts refused.

I had a feeling he wasn't go to stay retired for long. NBA players who retire voluntarily have to wait 365 days before they are allowed to rejoin the league, unless they are able to get unanimous approval from all 30 NBA teams. Williams' attempt was blocked by (allegedly) Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Minnesota, San Antonio and the Clippers. If his request had been accepted, then the Clippers would have had exclusive rights to him. However now, he'll have to wait until the off-season to rejoin the league.

Would be good to see him back, I thought his decision to retire was a little bit premature, I think he could still be a valuable backup point guard on a championship contender, similar to his role with Miami.

Did he ever make a statement as to the reason why he chose to retire in the first place?

He saw Starbury moving from a so-so team to a championship caliber one and he thought that he could have been that guy.

Well, it's obvious he knows what I know about the Clippers franchise and decided it would be better for him to retire. It would have been nice to see him play in a Clippers uniform this year. He would have got some good minutes during Baron Davis's injuries.

I would have thought that the Clippers recent waiving of PG Jason Hart was a move to make space for Jason Williams if I did not see the Clippers being one of the teams that refused his reinstatement.

Except that the Clippers would've held his exclusive rights.

If he's changed his mind on retirement then that's certainly his right, I was surprised to see him call it quits after he went to the extent of signing with a new team in the offseason. With that rule in place, perhaps he should've given it some more thought at the time.

It does seem strange but I suppose they have their reasons.

I really dont understand why teams would block a player's attempt to comeback after a retirement. It's not like the comeback of that particular player is going to have a mass impact on their team or anything like that anyway unless he is a super controversial player or something. :?

It was suggested in the article that I initially linked to that the Clippers would have held his rights, but that he probably would have left the Clippers almost immediately, and latched onto a title contender. Im not saying that's exactly what those teams' motivations were, but their qualms are understandable if that is the case.

The article wrote:According to ESPN, the Clippers would have regained exclusive rights to the 33-year-old had he been reinstated. One suggested motivation for teams blocking Williams' return is the assumption that he would have quickly parted ways with L.A. after reinstatement and signed with a playoff contender for this season's stretch run.

Perhaps the other teams therefore blocked his reinstatement as a show of solidarity (not having any interest in him themselves).

Yeah... Baron Davis is expressing that he has no interest on playing with the Clips where he's displaying that to the team. Maybe because they don't have Elton Brand on squad which made him up and leave Golden State. Maybe the Miami Heat can make a bid for him again just to get reinstated for him to play with them again. The only thing he needs to do is battle Quinn for the backup spot, or unless there's always Sacramento just to go back to the place where he started. Unless the Phoenix Suns can make a run for him since there's so many blown attempts on signing Shaun Livingston on the team to backup Steve Nash.
