Larry Hughes to the Knicks? Trade deadline?

Fri Feb 20, 2009 5:17 am

The trade deadline ended five hours ago, didn't it? Still there are rumours going on @ espn.com...with headlines like "last minute deal", "Shaq to Cavs" etc. ... it also says in sources that the Knicks trade Roberson, James and Rose for Larry Hughes.

What is correct now? I want to update NBA2k9 with final rosters but don't know when all trades are done. NBA.com does not mention any new trades. Is it likely that websites only update their news on the latest trades hours or even days after the trade deadline? Do GMs call other GMs at 2:50 pm, trade some players and websites put this online the next day?

It would make more sense if teams had to tell the press about their latest trades and all final trades are online half an hour after the trade deadline.

When will all those rumours come to an end? When can I update my rosters because all trades are 100% done?

It will end in 40 minutes, not 5 hours ago, go to realgm.com, there is a countdown. The Hughes deal is correct, it was posted in the other Bulls trade thread as well.

I don't see this as a bad trade for neither of the teams.

When you read 3.00 PM, it was US Eastern Time, not MiIddle European.

Not only that, but pending deals that are awaiting approval can be finalized after the actual deadline.

?

I don't understand that. Yesterday it said ".. hours"...and at 3 pm CET (now six hours ago) the counter was set to 0. The countdown stopped. This is really misleading. Why don't they set the counter to match my timezone? Here it is 9 pm.

They use the real date of the trade deadline but display this deadline with users' timezones instead of using their own. It is not difficult.

It worked for me, I saw it go down to 0 half an hour ago. And I don't see your problem, why is it important in which timezone you are?
1 hour to go makes no difference, it means in one hour is the deadline, no matter if it's 3.00 PM for you or 9.00 PM.

Man, with all these stupid trades, talent-for-expiring and not talent-for-talent, NBA can officialy rename itself to NBA Live.
Really dissapointed that Cavs haven't made a trade.

Looks like the deal is Tim Thomas, Jerome James, and Anthony Roberson for Larry Hughes. Lol, Tim Thomas goes back to the Bulls again from the Knicks, just like a few seasons ago. I never would have thought NY could get rid of Jerome James. I'm surprised he's even played at all this season.

So you don't like how the Cavs are doing?

The sad thing is that trades are just all about money. Cap space, salaries and other mathematical stuff. I rather have weak players I like play for the Knicks than getting a superstar in some years.
I do not care that much if the Knicks win the title or are the worst team in the league as long as I like their players. My favourite player is David Lee..and I also like Nate Robinson and Jamal Crawford very much. Zach Randolph too. Crawford and Randolph were traded in order to POSSIBLY get LeBron James in 2010.
And now David Lee was about to be traded. Fortunately, he is still on the Knicks. That's the sad thing that the emotional side of basketball with a heart for one's team, favourite players etc. is not that important as the core of the NBA is money. It will always be this way but it is still not my cup of tea.

A player can play several seasons for one team and be a great sportsmen on and off the court...and then he gets shipped to another team just to change some financials slightly. The other team sells him right away and so on and so forth.

No, of course not. I'm really happy with how the Cavs are doing. They still have a 41-11 team, and Delonte West will be soon back from his injury, Kinsey is already back (extremly fast  He got a high ankle sprain and was back in 3 weeks :o), Ilgauskas got his well-earned rest over the weekend and should be good now. But with all these crazy deals going around, I think they should have dealt Wally.

fair trade for the Knicks I guess since they got rid of Jerome James. Didn't think it'll ever happen but it did. Hughes, while not that great does give the knicks a big shooting guard which they kind of lacked. At least hughes will play and contribute somewhat. Tim thomas wasn't needed since there is many who can play his position

Not too bad for the Knicks, they've moved James' contract and Hughes' deal expires in time for the 2010 free agent frenzy anyway. Perhaps Hughes will be happier in New York...for at least the remainder of this season.
