Baron Davis - Tracy McGrady trade

Apparently Baron Davis is telling his friends that he's about to be traded. He and Clippers head coach Mike Dunleavy aren't seeing eye to eye, so it's best if he moves on. That's viable enough. It's easy to understand how Davis would be frustrated, considering his injury-laden team is getting blown out on a regular basis. It's also easy to see that the Clippers might want to get out from under the long-term deal they inked with Davis this summer if he's unable to get on the same page with his head coach. What's hard to believe is the rest of what Davis is reportedly telling his friends.

The story goes that Davis is being traded to Houston for . . .get this . . .Tracy McGrady. Yes, the same Tracy McGrady who is about to undergo microfracture knee surgery and miss the rest of this season and probably most of next season. In fact, it's debateable whether or not he'll ever play again, as microfracture has a long, drawn-out rehabilitation that requires more intense physical therapy than McGrady is likely to embrace.

What you think guys? (Y)

too sad to see baron in rockets (i really don't like this team) and i'm very-very sad that t-mac is going to retire very soon! a lot of great players have some kind of bad karma, and just nothing we can do about it! very-very sad!

in fact clipps could be the players on 2010 FA market with mac's contract, but baron has $11mln and mac has $21mln salaries, and clipps would have to give up one of the bigs, i doub't it would happen, on the other hand - rockets could offer some yuong and skilld player...
only god can judge me

Seems odd and a bit far fetched to say the least with McGrady supposedly about to undergo surgery. I suppose we'll see in a few hours.

^Yes! It's time for Dunleavy to go. He has a team with young legs and a few vets. Gotta get out and run. It's funny how Dunleavy has always stressed some defensive strategy, but it has only worked when he had players who could play defense.

Clippers are really desperate to cut costs and McGrady has 1 year left in his contract while Baron Davis has 5 years left in his contract so it's not really about comparing skill levels. Although this would've been a great opportunity for Houston to finally get rid of what I consider dead weight.

You're saying it like it's for certain. There's no certainty with T-Mac.

Anyway, I dont think this deal will happen. The Rocket's owner and GM has already mentioned that they dont have any plan to shift McGrady. Despite the fact that I'm a big T-MAC fan, I think it's safe to say that both of them are making the wrong decision. :(

And it didn't.

Not necessarily. I wouldn't expect him to have the same explosiveness he once had but enough players have come back from the surgery and been productive to suggest that T-Mac's chances of returning and being effective are decent...the extent of the damage and his ability to successfully rehab post-surgery permitting.

He could either end up like Jason Kidd after his microscopic knee surgery, strong and productive or like Penny Hardaway after his microscopic knee surgery, a bench warmer

True, it could be that he never properly recovers from it and his career fizzles out but it wouldn't be unprecedented if he returned and was still effective. It might put him out an entire season as it did Amar'e (save for a token three game appearance in the 2006 season) but he's still young enough to miss a year, come back and play at least a few more productive seasons so long as he's healthy. I know it's fashionable these days to write off pretty much everyone over 30 but the amount of players who remain All-Stars or at least effective players into their mid 30s doesn't support that approach.

Rockets team physician Dr. Tom Clanton said no structural damage was found in the ligament or cartilage of McGrady’s left knee and that the loose bodies were in a non weight-bearing part of the knee.

What was the point of that surgery last year? Leave the loose bodies in there. I seriously think T-Mac doesn't know how to condition correctly. His entire career has been riddled with injuries. Now, the funny thing is that microfracture surgery is basically a hole drilled in your bone, letting stem cells pour out into your knee cavity which form new cartilage. It can also repair torn ligaments. If his pain is coming from bones rubbing together, or from an impaired ligament (no structural damage found?), then I understand him wanting to have microfracture surgery. But, to me it sounds like he thinks it's a fix to his knee problem. If he is having pain in his knee and the doctors don't find any damage causing it, he needs to see some other doctors.

Francis' career fizzled out a lot quicker though. Even with all his injury woes, I'd rate his chances of returning and being effective a little better than that but I think it'll be a stretch for him to return as a player that a team can build around.
