Bulls get Salmons and Miller

Thu Feb 19, 2009 7:54 am

The Kings agreed on Wednesday to a trade that sends forward John Salmons and center Brad Miller to the Chicago Bulls in exchange for forwards Drew Gooden and Andres Nocioni, according to league sources that spoke with David Aldridge.

The deal will reduce Sacramento's obligations next season, saving the Kings millions on the salary cap and keeping them well under any potential luxury tax payments. Gooden, making $7.15 million this season, will likely come off the team's cap after this year, and now, the team is free of the $5.4 million due to Salmons in 2009 and the $12 million due to Miller in '09.

Miller played two-plus seasons in Chicago after being traded from Charlotte in 2000 before being dealt to Indiana in a trade that also sent Ron Artest to the Pacers in exchange for Jalen Rose.

Sacramento will absorb the remaining four years and $28.4 million on Nocioni's contract, but Nocioni's contract actually goes down after next season, when he's scheduled to make $7.5 million, to $6.8 million in 2010 and $6.6 million in 2011 before going back up to $7.5 million in the final season, which will be Sacramento's option.

I love it for the Bulls. I hope they'll now trade Hinrich for an expiring, it'd be really good. Still, Gooden and Nocioni for Salmons and Miller ? Works well for me.

Rose
BG
Deng
Tyrus
Miller

that's a pretty solid starting 5, especially when you have guys like Noah, Salmons, Hinrich(if he stays) etc coming off the bench.

Sad to see Nocioni traded out of Chicago... But I hope he can play more minutes in Sacramento

Go Chapu!

Strange that Sacramento had such a crappy team but such a high payroll, $69 million before this deal. What the hell happened to the Kings? Anyways seems like a good deal for the Bulls, Andrew might be happy with this one, now Noah can come off the bench where he belongs.

Man I think the Bulls got the bette end of the trade . Hopefully Miller can play good as a Bulls and lamons has been playing real god this year and I would'nt trade Hinrich he gives the Bulls leadership and he is a good PG for D-Rose to practice and play with .

alejandrov- i'm sad to see "el chapu" go. he was one of my fav players on the team. he's a great "hustle" player but he also was skilled. his hard nose style of play would have been ideal in previous eras. best of luck to him

i think overall it was a good deal for the bulls. financially it was great- Miller's contract expires 2010. Salmon's expires 1yr before Nocioni

Miller is a good stopgap player for this year and will be a good trade piece next year.

Salmons versatility makes either Gordon or Hinrich expendable. he can defend either guard position & he can score the ball. that skillset fits best with Derrick Rose. finally a 6'6" SG who is competent on both sides of the ball LOL

you could almost kiss a ben gordon return to the bulls next year goodbye

a lot rumors going around that the Bulls are still trying to make moves..specifically Hinrich

also interesting that gooden was becoming very expendable.

I'm disappointed to see the back of both Noce and Gooden. Noce was all heart and a brilliant team-mate. Solid defender and shooter and could always be relied on to give 281%. Gooden was doing well until he got injured, was one of the Bulls most consistent players in the early part of the season. I would have been happy enough to see him stick around beyond the season. On the other hand, Tyrus has been playing very well recently, and can hopefully keep that up for the rest of the year, provided he remains a Bull.

I actually like it for both teams. Opens up more minutes for Spencer Hawes in Sacramento, who has been very solid when Miller's been out, and actually nets them a player who is able to play some semblance of defence in Nocioni.

As for the Bulls, well it brings more scoring in, which is always great.

Back to the Bulls he goes.

Any chances of Artest rejoining?

Might as well bring in back Eddy Curry, Jamal Crawford, Tyson Chandler, and Ron Mercer!

Re: Bulls get Salmons and Miller

Thu Feb 19, 2009 12:42 pm

Curry is too fat, Crawford too much of an undersized SG, Chandler too fragile and Mercer...well he's old.

Well now if they decide not to bring Ben Gordon back they'll still have Salmons

it's strange that Andrew did't post any coments yet! this trade was very nice and now i will follow the bulls games more, because they're looking very promessing, and still doesn't done dealing!
i've got big plans for the next big 3 team, i'm sure in 2010-2011 season Eastern conference would look different, that now, because of huge improvement of next teams:
1. Miami Heat
2. Chicago Bulls
3. New Jersey Nets

Good move for the Bulls (Y)
Love to see Ben Gordon be traded before the deadline (N)

As for Andrew, he still sleeping right now with saliva dropping

I actually haven't had time to get on for my daily posting until now, though I did see the news this morning.

I like the deal well enough. In the absence of anything bigger (now that Amar'e seems unlikely to be going anywhere) it's a good move, something that's been a rarity for the Bulls the last couple of years.

Bring Mercer back!!!

OFF: Who was Ron Mercer's nº1 fan here in NLSC?

Fitzy is not only the number one fan, I think he is the only fan.

Tim Thomas is back to Chicago too. Bulls also got Jerome James and Anthony Roberson in exchange for Larry Hughes. Good deal for Bulls in my opinion. They trade somebody who didn't really play at all and got pretty good role player in Thomas.

Re: Bulls get Salmons and Miller

Good roleplayer in Tim Thomas ? Wait .. what ? They're going to  Tim Thomas him, they also Tim Thomased Hughes, but I guess it's more comfortable to Tim Thomas Tim Thomas. The point of this deal probably is 2010, the Bulls cut over 1 mil cap.

Quoted from RealGM forums:

This season: Thomas + James = $12,249,400
Next season: Thomas + James = $13,066,600

Hughes this season = $12,827,676
Hughes next season: = $13,655,268

Savings this year (on an annual basis) = $578,276
Savings next year: $588,668
Total Savings = $1,116,944

Nice job Jonathan Gar Paxson Forman!

Re: Bulls get Salmons and Miller

Funny to see them get Thomas again but arguably worth it to move Hughes. If Jerome James doesn't pick up option next year, that's $6 mil off the payroll, while Thomas' contract expires next year. Again, not the huge move I was hoping for but good enough.

don't worry, if it's a player option, he's definitely picking it up

Yeah. Fuck. Who the hell gives Jerome James a player option?!

Wait, don't answer. I know already. Isiah strikes again.

Re: Bulls get Salmons and Miller

Sat Feb 21, 2009 10:41 am

Yeah, I'd be surprised if he doesn't and I couldn't fault him for doing so. It's not my place to say he shouldn't try to make money his contract says he's entitled to...but looking at it from the Bulls' perspective, I'd prefer he retired or pursued other options. ;)
