Marion Happy To Be Free Of Heat's "Boring Style"

Wed Feb 18, 2009 8:58 pm

Story @ RealGM

Raptor forward Shawn Marion is looking forward to his fresh start in Toronto, and more importantly he is looking forward to once again playing in a more up tempo system after playing the last season in Miami's 'boring style', the Associated Press is reporting.

"The game is supposed to be exciting," Marion said Tuesday as he and Marcus Banks were introduced to the Toronto media. "I'm tired of playing that boring style in the half court, watching everybody just go up and run plays, call this play. That's boring. The fans don't enjoy it either. People like to see you get up and down, have high-scoring games and dunks and all that stuff. That's what it's about."

And we thought it was about winning, notably in the NBA Finals. That's not to say I don't see his point, I think high scoring games do get a bad rap at times and I enjoy watching different styles of basketball and dunks as much as the next person but those are so eyebrowing raising remarks.

yeah, i was very surprised, when i read this today ealier! marion remind me shaq, when he was traded to Phoenix, and said: i'm glad that i don't have to play for a d-league team anymore.

if matrix want to do trix and lose with Raps - let him do that, and miami would play halfcourt and win!

He's still got hops & the energy left to play in a run & gun style of basketball, hence the remark.

Once you've lost the agility and quick first step, it comes down to adjusting to "that boring style in the half court". Marion looks like a fool with that comment, sure it didn't work out in Miami for him, but knocking the style of play when it's proven successful (Spurs anyone?) is quite stupid on his part. Then again, he's only had to do with the run & gun style in Phoenix which brought succes, so he doesn't know any better.

But dunks and flash isn't what it's about, it's about playing smart. When your body gives up and you can still manage to wow fans (Jordan, Malone, Stockton or any other "old timer" for that matter), that's what it's about.

I'm with marion on this one. I watch games to be entertained. I could care less who wins the championship. it's not like I am getting a ring myself or something if my team wins it.

Good thing, chances of the Raptors ever winning one are slim to none as it is.

yup. exactly why I picked the raptors as my team. if the championship meant anything to me
I would have gone for the lakers or the celtics.

as long as the raptors play exciting every game I get to watch, it's good enough for me.
having the team you support become champions is only good for bragging rights anyways.
which is only meaningful if you have friends that follow the nba.

if the lakers win the 'ship, would that make you hate yourself less?
if it does then I hope the lakers will win.

You may be the only person I know. That shows the team really doesn't need to win a championship, but be built on entertainment values.... Which I credit you for that because Marion fits well under Colangelo's scheme instead of Riley's. If it's like that and all... You might as well be a fan of the Phoenix Suns. That entertainment values on giving what the fans want is not going to put a banner, a trophy, or a ring on the players. Which the fans want that too.

I never saw the point of getting emotionally invested in how a team peforms.
I don't understand people who get all upset if a bunch of people fail to put the ball through a hoop more than another bunch of people. I like dunks and hard fouls. flashy passes are cool too.
it would be nice if the raptors would win in the finals, but it would mean more to the players and the people who work for that organisation then it would to me. if some other teams wins it. that's ok too.

If you want entertainment value: just watch And1..oh and then watch the "pro entertaining" guys get beat by random scrub teams in each city.

The truth is: Most people do watch their favorite team because to them: they are the most entertaining. It is all a matter of taste. Do i like watching the spurs play? No. But alot of people would disagree with me.

As far as the happiness from winning a championship: let people have their fun and feel like they did something. Theres no harm in it. Also: usually when your team wins the championship the next year gets more games televised. Which means you get more hours of them entertaining you without extra work. You may also attract more entertaining players, coachs, and get more media coverage. Winning a championship is not necessarily the only thing: but there are lots of added benefits to doing so which would result in making fans "happy".

Marion was unhappy with his role in Miami. It's his way of saying sorry ass excusses for poor performance as Heat. Understandable. If he like up tempo teams, then he can say so, i guess. best of luck to him.

Ans you see why Marion has 0 rings .You can't ebat teams in the playoffs playing Run & Gun well you don't win a championship

I'm glad you concluded for me that I hate myself, thanks.

By the way, I also very much enjoy watching my team play.
